Monk

Further Comments: A vicar who once lived here reported seeing the figure of a monk standing by his fireplace - it disappeared when approached. Monks have also been reported at the ruins of the priory, where it is thought many died by drowning.

Floating Female

Location: Ockley - Kings Arms public house

Further Comments: Several members of staff witnessed a phantom woman wearing a long dress float across the bar into a wall. The witness said the room was permanently cold, but the site has now been renovated.

Hunter

Location: Ockley - Red Lion public house

Further Comments: A bedroom in this pub is haunted by a young woman injured while hunting - she was brought here to rest and recuperate, but later died in the room from her wounds.

Black Coach

Location: Old Woking - Bridge between Old Woking and Send

Further Comments: The bridge is said to be haunted by a black coach pulled by a black horse.

Girl in Nightdress

Location: Oxted - Crown Inn

Further Comments: This figure was reported several times along an upstairs corridor and was thought to be a former landlady. She can be heard walking around late at night. A phantom man has also been reported, standing by the fireplace.

Johnny Upfold

Further Comments: This friendly little ghost was often seen sitting around the kitchen and former servant's quarters.

Dark Haired Woman

Location: Pirbright - Army Training Centre

Further Comments: While patrolling the camp, this witness encountered a dark-haired woman wearing black at the top of the camp. The woman asked if the witness had seen her son; he responded no, and then the woman was gone. The witness reported the encounter to the corporal of the guard, who mentioned it to the sergeant, who said other people had encountered the woman. It was said that there had been an old railway line in the area and a woman crossing with her son had been killed many years previous.

Dark Man

Further Comments: This figure, seen briefly in a bedroom before it vanished, was described as dark and hairy, with a black hat.

Old Man with a Stick

Location: Purley - Royal Oak public house

Further Comments: Believed to be the ghost of a timber yard owner, this friendly old man moves across the lounge with the aid of a walking stick before vanishing through a wall.

Turning Stone

Location: Pyrford - Pyrford Court

Date / Time: Sunrise (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A large rock near the gateway of the court rotates when the cock crows and dawn breaks.

Priest

Further Comments: Thought to have been here since the twelfth century, this phantom priest is not believed to have been seen for a good number of years.

Woman on Path

Location: Reigate - St Mary's Church

Further Comments: A ghostly girl has been seen on the pathway leading up to the church. Singing has also been reported when the church has been locked up.

Man in Boots

Location: Reigate - Wray Farm

Further Comments: Three ghosts cohabit this building - a man wearing riding boots, an older woman who sits by the fireplace, and a little girl with blonde hair.

Coach

Location: Riddlesdown - Exact area unknown

Further Comments: This coach pulled by a team of four horses is driven over a piece of private land, where a county lane once ran.

Former Customer

Location: Rosehill - Mecca Bingo

Further Comments: A team of ghost hunters investigating reports of a grey man in this bingo hall encountered strange noises and a bright light during their investigation. During a previous visit they claimed to have contacted the ghost of a former customer who had committed suicide in 1965.

Middle Aged Woman

Further Comments: Wearing either Victorian or Edwardian clothing, this phantom woman was spotted in an office. She vanished around a corner which led to a locked door.

Smoker

Location: Send - Boughton Hall

Further Comments: A phantom old man walks the upper parts of the building while smoking a pipe. It is more likely that the smell of smoke be perceived than the apparition.

Headless Monk

Location: Shepperton - General area

Further Comments: In life, this monk eloped to the village and began living with a local lass. His brothers were less than happy with the breaking of vows, so tracked him down and decapitated him. The headless ghost is said to run through the village, trying to escape ecclesiastic law.

Downed Vickers

Location: Shepperton on Thames - Field near Ferry Lane

Further Comments: In 1929 an old Vickers aircraft crashed in this field, killing its two crew members. The crash was heard several times over the next few years by locals and was even reportedly seen, glowing blue in the pale moonlight.

Christine

Further Comments: Christine, an anchorite at the church, tried to escape with a stranger she had fallen in love with. The villagers had other plans and captured Christine, forcing her to stay. Her ghost supposedly remained on the site.

Further Comments: Bathing naked at the pool, Emma swam further out when she saw that Prince (or King) John was approaching. Alas, she could not tread water and drowned. She sometimes returns to the area.

Jack?

Location: Stoneleigh - Road by Nescot College on the Ewell bypass

Further Comments: A taxi driver and his three passengers watched a dark figure with no features dart across the road in front of them before leaping four and a half metres into the air to clear an embankment. The passengers compared the entity to Spring Heeled Jack.

White Figure

Further Comments: A small figure in white has been witnessed moving between the kitchen and living room of this building.

Figure in the Chair

Location: Sunbury on Thames - Rossall House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: Home to Sherard Osborn Cowper-Coles, electrometallurgist and inventor, Rossall House was said to be haunted by a ghost that was seen by Sherard's wife. The scientist once took a photograph of a chair that revealed a ghostly looking man sitting upon it, covered in a blanket and wearing a wig.

Child in the Cellar

Further Comments: A former manager of the pub reported hearing a child's voice in the cellar, where doors would shut and barrels shift with no human intervention. A strange man would also be seen walking up and down the side of the pub in the mornings.
