Ironing Man

Further Comments: While her parents looked around a house with the intent to buy, a child spent several minutes talking to a man in the hallway who was ironing. When the child mentioned this to her mother, the nearby owner was shocked; the house had been placed on the market after the death of her husband, who would do the ironing in the hallway.

Shadows

Location: Nottingham - Pit & Pendulum Inn

Further Comments: This horror inspired theme pub would not be complete without an accompanying ghost story or two. Shadowy figures have upset customers sitting downstairs, quiet voices whisper in the men's toilet, and staff have reported something invisible prodding them.

Woman in Grey

Location: Nottingham - Private flat, Redcliffe Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: At least two flats along this road were said to be haunted by an aging woman wearing grey. After one of the flats was decorated, the figure was not seen again.

Secret Door

Location: Nottingham - Private house along Forest Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1940s
Further Comments: Two decorators fled this house while working there shortly after the Second World War. They had found a concealed door with a lead seal; forcing it open, they were overwhelmed by cold air and by a presence forcing them to back away.

Hooded Figure

Location: Nottingham - Private house in the St Anns area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980s onwards
Further Comments: Investigated by Nottingham Ghost Investigations over a period of years, they reported on an entity which attacked a woman and would manifest as a tall, hooded figure. The movement of a large double bed was caught on video.

Nell Gwyn

Location: Nottingham - Private residence, Bestwood Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970 - present day
Further Comments: The ghostly entities said to haunt this old property including a monk, a young man, a woman, a teenage girl, and Nell Gwyn, who would stay at the nearby Bestwood Lodge with Charles II. The Nottingham Ghost Investigations team visited the site and reported experiencing poltergeist activity.

Shadowy Figures

Location: Nottingham - Private residence, Carlton Hill

Further Comments: The Nottingham Ghost Investigations team investigated this site after occupants reported seeing shadowy figures, being touched, hearing voices, and the feeling of being watched in the cellar.

Trunk

Location: Nottingham - Private residence, Ropewalk
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Unknown, but pre-1957
Further Comments: Occupants were woken in the early hours of the morning by the sound of a heavy trunk being dragged down the staircase to the basement. Witnesses could see nothing other than the family dog cowering in a corner.

Nurse

Location: Nottingham - Public health laboratory (guinea-pig house)

Further Comments: After three girls reported seeing a phantom nurse, a medium was brought on to the site, although not told of the witness's experience. The medium claimed to feel great distress on the top floor of the building.

Okay?

Location: Nottingham - Purple Entrance, City Hospital

Date / Time: 2013
Further Comments: A voice which asks if people are okay in a caring manner has been heard here, although the source is unseen. The disembodied footsteps heard along a nearby corridor are said to belong to an old matron.

Grey Figure

Location: Nottingham - Queens Medical Centre - University Hospital
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s onwards
Further Comments: A figure wearing a grey robe has been spotted wandering around at night, though vanishes when people start to look for the figure. Nurses who sleep in one of the rest rooms have been woken up by a black nurse - no nurse matching her description works at the centre.

Mother

Location: Nottingham - Rail line between Grantham and Nottingham
Type: Post-Mortem Manifestation
Date / Time: 1950s
Further Comments: A woman travelled to Nottingham by train after receiving news that her mother had been admitted to hospital after having a fall. During the journey, the woman spotted her mother on the train carriage, who smiled and vanished. After arriving in Nottingham, the woman was informed that her mother had died.

Woman

Location: Nottingham - Railway bridge over Wood Lane, and Gedling Station (currently a youth centre)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: The phantom woman who is said to peer over the edge of the bridge and watch passers-by may be the same entity also reported at the old station.

Mabel

Location: Nottingham - RHM Factory, part of which was Daybrook Railway Station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s, early 1980s
Further Comments: Workers at the factory sometimes reported a phantom woman in one of the mixing rooms, which was once Daybrook Station. After improvements were made to this part of the plant, Mabel never returned.

Footsteps

Location: Nottingham - Ropewalk House (currently a hospital)

Date / Time: 2012-2013
Further Comments: Footsteps, banging and knocking have been reported coming from deserted parts of this building.

Landlord

Location: Nottingham - Salutation Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Unable to handle the high pressure role of running the pub, this man took his own life - the shade remains in the building. A highwayman is also suspected of haunting the inn. The caves under the pub are said to be haunted by a young child, a four year old girl.

Man in Green Jacket

Location: Nottingham - Trent Bridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1960s onwards
Further Comments: The ghost of a man in a green jacket has been spotted looking over the edge of the bridge before fading from view, leading some to speculate he was a suicide victim. A transparent jogger has also been spotted running over the bridge, and phantom voices heard by people crossing alone. Some have reported seeing people leap into the waters under the bridge, but they vanish before hitting the water, and finally a one-man canoe has been seen just before passing under the bridge, but it suddenly vanishes.

Cat

Location: Nottingham - Unknown house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Early 1970s
Further Comments: The poltergeist activity, blamed on a phantom cat, which took to haunting this unidentified home drove the occupants to the police station in the early hours of the morning. Two police officers were sent to investigate, and although the officers recorded a funny smell and intense cold, they did not experience any otherworldly activity.

Vanishing Man

Location: Nottingham - Victoria Shopping Centre
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: 1970s and Spring 2005
Further Comments: During the 1970s, two workers at the bus station spotted a man who they thought looked a little strange. He walked away and one worker followed, only to realise that he had vanished - there had not been enough time for the figure to have run away, and nowhere for him to hide. In spring 2005 a mother and daughter entered an empty lift; during their brief journey, they both spotted a man standing just behind the daughter.

Salamanderesque

Location: Nottingham - West Lake, Colwick Country Park
Type: Cryptozoology

Further Comments: Cryptozoologist Adam Bird reported fishermen believed a large creature to reside in the lake, around fifteen feet (4.5 metres) in length and resembling a salamander.

Banished

Location: Nottingham - Wilford Ferry Inn

Further Comments: This inn was exorcised in 1982 to remove a troublesome poltergeist.

Man in Blue

Location: Nottingham - Wilford Toll Bridge

Further Comments: A gentleman wearing a blue suit has been seen on the bridge and is thought to be the ghost of a former toll collector. A hooded figure is said to haunt under the bridge.

Lady Middleton

Further Comments: Lady Middleton was paralysed after a fall and spent the rest of her life in the room that she now haunts.

Sixty Gnomes in Cars

Location: Nottingham - Wollaton Park, swampy area

Date / Time: September 1979
Further Comments: Appearing to several children, these friendly gnomes sat two per car and playfully chased the children around the park. The wee fellows looked 'like Noddy', but with white beards. The cars moved without sound.

Vanishing Man

Location: Nottingham - Woodhouse Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 05 March 2018, morning
Further Comments: While drinking a cup of tea with a colleague, a witness watched as a man crossed Woodhouse Street, heading in the direction of St Matthias Church. The man reached the metal fence just before the church and then just vanished into thin air. The witness was left shocked, as the man looked solid, like a real person, but there was nowhere he could have gone.
