Horse Drawn Carriage

Further Comments: While sitting in bed in his maisonette on the fourth floor, this witness was startled to see the tail end of a black liveried horse drawn carriage fade through his room and wall. He later learnt that a neighbour had died at exactly the time of his sighting. Soon after this, the now empty flat in which the neighbour had died became the scene of strong paranormal disturbances. Though the windows and doors were sealed, items in the building were smashed and thrown around, and it was not until an exorcism was carried out that the apartment fell silent.

Spitfire

Further Comments: Observed flying overhead, and sometimes heard, a phantom Spitfire haunts the skies of Biggin Hill - January would appear to have become its favourite haunting month. Airmen dressed in trench coats have been reported in the village; they stop people and ask directions before disappearing.

Walking Woman

Further Comments: This small stretch of line is reputedly haunted by a woman struck by a train.

Murdered Girl

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Chislehurst Caves
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1961
Further Comments: Many ghosts are said to haunt the caves, including a woman drowned in a pool who was seen in 1961 - the witness knocked himself out on the cave roof while trying to escape the apparition. Other 'people' have been seen within, and the sounds of children and sometimes horses are reported. One myth says that a priest who spent the night at the site was found dead, the cause of death - fright!

Michael Jackson

Further Comments: Several news outlets reported on the photograph of 'Michael Jackson' manifesting near an impersonator which was snapped by a fourteen year old boy, although the entity is more likely to be lens flare.

Severed Arm

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Downe Court Manor

Further Comments: Several shades reside here, though the scariest is the ghostly severed arm that once appeared, placing itself by the side of a woman while she was in bed. A young girl dripping wet (she drowned in a lake) haunts the butler's room, and finally, many people have reported feeling unnaturally terrified while standing at the top of the staircase where once a man hanged himself.

Rider

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Field along Pickhurst Hill, Beckenham

Further Comments: A ghostly figure riding a white horse was spotted galloping across this field.

Unseen Force

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Keston Ponds

Further Comments: Three visitors to the pond heard a whooshing sound which grew stronger until it formed a physical force that pushed two of the visitors backwards. Ripples also formed on the surface of the pond. The three visitors left the area scared.

Unhappy Girl

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Lazy Toad public house, and road outside, Beckenham

Further Comments: Wearing 1980s style clothing, one witness spotted the unhappy-looking teenager before she suddenly disappeared outside the pub. There appeared to be some debate in the media as to whether the ghost was somehow connected to the pub or just a misidentified real person.

Dark Figure

Further Comments: A drone operator caught a figure in black standing within the priory grounds, although there is little to suggest that the figure is not 'real'.

Grey Haired Woman

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Private residence along Abbey Park, Beckenham
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: October 2007, early morning
Further Comments: One occupant of the house woke in the early hours to see an elderly lady standing in the corner of the bedroom. The figure had long grey hair, curled at the end, and wore a grey dressing gown. The occupant pulled the duvet over their head and hid. Other people in the property reported an unsettling feeling during the night.

Charlotte

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Queensway Village Bakery (aka Plaxtol Village Bakery), Petts Wood

Further Comments: This bakery hit the headlines after it was reported to be haunted by an entity named Charlotte. She was said to be harmless, although she was blamed for throwing baking trays and bread, flicking lights on and spelling the first three letters of her name in spilt caster sugar.

Turpin in Green Velvet

Location: Outer London: Bromley - The Chequers public house, Southborough Lane, Bickley

Further Comments: Local legend says Dick Turpin's ghost was seen sitting at a desk in an upstairs room, writing with a quill. Another story says a woman in eighteenth century garb also haunts the upper part of the building. The pub hit headlines in September 2013 after it was reported a phantom French Soldier called Barnard scared away two bar staff who were staying overnight.

Sea Captain

Further Comments: An old sea captain reputedly haunts this site, possibly from the building's time as a post First World War military hospital.

Unknown Male

Location: Outer London: Bromley - Viola, Crescent Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The spectral image of a man was seen several times in a bedroom in his house.

Man in 1930's Clothing

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Road bridge that crosses the railway line near Kenley station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: October 1994, evening
Further Comments: While walking home, a witness spotted this phantom gentleman walking towards the railway station. The entity appeared to be deep in thought, and as it reached the station, suddenly stopped before dissolving away.

Faceless Motorcyclist

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Roundshaw Housing Estate, Waddon
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1971
Further Comments: The motorcyclist was seen early in the morning, dressed in old clothing. It is thought he was stationed on this site, an RAF base during the Second World War. Other airfield ghosts reported around the area include a Dutch pilot killed when his airplane crashed in fog in the 1930s and three nuns who died when their plane crashed in 1947. Phantom singing has also been reported on the estate.

Girl

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Rowdown woods, New Addington

Further Comments: Walking through the woods on a rainy winter's day, a witness spotted a little girl wearing a yellow summer dress, completely unsuitable for the time of year. The girl walked through foliage and nettles, moving behind a tree and disappearing. The witness, slightly freaked out, walked away from the area, but spotted the girl again, this time accompanied by a man wearing blue clothing. Both figures once again disappeared behind a tree.

Old Man with a Stick

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Royal Oak public house, Purley

Further Comments: Believed to be the ghost of a timber yard owner, this friendly old man moves across the lounge with the aid of a walking stick before vanishing through a wall.

Preacher

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Sandrock public house, Upper Shirley Road

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This public house is said to be haunted by an old man with a long beard, dressed as a preacher. He has reputedly been seen by former staff.

Grey Lady

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Selsdon Park Hotel

Date / Time: Late twentieth century?
Further Comments: Carrying a candle whilst walking down the Tudor Corridor, this spook is thought to be that of a maid who killed herself during the 1930s. One guest caught the reflection of the entity in a mirror as he sat in the bath.

Droning

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Teevan Road area, Addiscombe

Date / Time: May-July 1958
Further Comments: The source of a throbbing, droning noise which could be heard at night remained unknown. Witnesses said it sounded like an aircraft circling above, although the aircraft theory was dismissed (alongside hornets and a secret broadcasting station in someone's cellar).

Nun

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Abbots Lane & Hayes Lane, Kenley

Further Comments: This religious figure has been observed several times over the years. It may be the same entity that some have reported as a woman holding a young child. This latter shade is said to be looking for the village of Watendone, which no longer exists.

Edward Benson

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Addington Palace, Addington

Further Comments: This former Archbishop still drifts around the building where he listens to the church music. It is said he is only seen by choirboys.

Blurred Figure

Location: Outer London: Croydon - Addiscombe railway yard - sheds (station demolished in 2001)

Further Comments: While the buildings stood, one worker witnessed a grey figure walking from the sheds, the apparition's face blurred and distorted. The sounds of machinery being moved at night were also reported, though the buildings were locked. The grey figure has been seen since the demolition, viewed from the fence along Capri Road.
