Further Comments: Two witnesses spotted a naked man run past them in the rain, heading in the direction of the cemetery. The police were summoned but were unable to find either the man or any footprints in the mud of the cemetery, leading to a rumour that the figure may have been a ghost.

Further Comments: This building is reportedly haunted by a maid who committed suicide after her secret lover, a local policeman, left her. Her pacing has been heard down a corridor, and she also moves items around in the building's offices. The figure of a middle aged man has also been seen.

Further Comments: This thin, grey ghost is said to be a member of staff who committed suicide at the inn when she discovered she was with child. She walks the upstairs corridors, while in other parts of the building, strange noises are heard in the night and well secured shelves fall without warning.

Further Comments: Around a thousand people assembled on the street to watch a glowing figure, named as the ghost of an apprentice, in the window of a building. A police officer pointed out that the 'entity' resembled a light being reflected in a window moving in the wind. Once the window had been secured, the ghost could no longer be seen.

Further Comments: This creature, with its unusually large eyes, has been known to turn itself into mist if threatened. A ghost hunter in the area reported to have spoken to a couple who witnessed a large black dog appear out of nowhere as they travelled down the lane.

Further Comments: Floating lights and strange figures were said to have been seen in this building when it was a pub. Another local legend says that it was an entrance to a nest of secret underground tunnels used by Mary Queen of Scots.

Further Comments: A close friend and ally of Cromwell, the well-built ghost of Colonel Bright has been observed standing at the top of the stairs. Other ghosts reported here include the sounds of children, an elderly woman from the 1920s, a phantom Roundhead, a monk, and another shadowy figure who throws items around the bar.

Further Comments: Around two thousand men and young boys gathered at this site after a rumour started a ghost had been seen (although the local press declared the entity was really a 'young fellow of weak intellect'). Neighbours complained, the police arrived, scuffles occurred, no ghost appeared, and people went home. Rumours of a ghostly figure in the area continued throughout the rest of the month.

Further Comments: An overgrown lane in the village (now a Sheffield suburb) was said to be home to fairies, with distinct fairy circles spotted in the grass. A headless woman also haunted the lane.

Further Comments: A man spotted a figure wearing a flying jacket and scarf walking across the foggy, open playing fields. While walking towards the witness, the figure suddenly vanished.

Further Comments: While crossing a field of sheep, a group of friends watched a large, cat-shaped creature amongst the sheep. The creature spotted the group and crouched, resulting in the friends fleeing the area.

Further Comments: A secret tunnel containing a box of treasure was said to connect the church to Beauchief Abbey. The box could only be removed by a white horse wearing shoes which faced the wrong way. The horse would have to approach the treasure tail first and could only drag the box out using rope tied around its head. In 1840 a ghostly woman was spotted watching the parish clerk play the organ at dusk - the clerk and his apprentice fled and vowed never to play the organ in the evening again.

Further Comments: Seen and felt sitting by the stone fireplace, the phantom of an aging patron firmly holding his jugs of beer still returns to the oldest pub in Sheffield. A ghostly child is also said to pull people's hair.

Further Comments: A local story says that a figure or ball of light can be seen crossing the road, although some believe that it is an optical illusion caused by environmental effects.

Further Comments: This poltergeist would hide and move objects, blow light bulbs, stack cigarette butts, and create the smell of pipe smoke. A phantom black dog was also seen by a child on the site.

Further Comments: A 23 year old woman encountered a phantom woman floating slightly above the floor of her home. The witness said that the entity wore a green Elizabethan style dress, had beautiful hands, and while the base of the neck appeared solid, the top had faded to nothing and the entity had no head. When Dore stood as a village, rather than a Sheffield suburb, the area was believed to be haunted by a young girl upon a white horse.

Further Comments: A resident reported seeing a phantom man sitting in a chair that was not there and a woman would walk up to the attic bedroom. After experiencing poltergeist activity in the bathroom, the witness shouted out in frustration - the haunting ceased after the witness's outburst.
