Further Comments: The passageways of this building are haunted by the sounds of wet feet quickly pacing along their stonework. The sounds may relate to a murder that occurred at the hall in the eighteenth century.

Running

Location: Dunnington - Private residence, Water Lane

Further Comments: Several sound-based activities were heard here, including footsteps running on the staircase and walking through an empty room, and bangs that resembled gloved hands knocking on glass. On one occasion, a figure seen sitting on a bed quickly disappeared after being mistaken for a real person.

Green Serpent

Location: Easington - Off coast

Further Comments: This sea creature was snakelike, possessing a flat head. It appeared to gasp for air as it skimmed across the waves.

Orange Energy

Location: Flamborough - Area near the lighthouse
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 20/21 June 2019
Further Comments: One witness spotted two red lights hovering silently hovering over the cliff before they descended and vanished. Sheep in a nearby field appeared distressed. The following night, the same witness spotted a small drone-like craft which transformed into a rectangular orange object, like a ball of energy, which crackled and buzzed. The object remained visible for a few minutes. Two people nearby were able to hear the crackling of the object but could not see it.

Jenny Gallows

Location: Flamborough - Dane's Dyke (nature reserve)

Further Comments: Dating back to prehistoric times, this ancient feature is home to a pale female form that flitters around the site. She was given her affectionate nickname by locals. A woman in the nineteenth century is said to have died after she, along with her fiance, tried to find the ghost - she caught a chill and was dead within a month. A local story once said she could be summoned by running eight times around a circular pit and singing 'Ah'll tee on me bonnet, an' put on me shoe, an' if thoo's not off, ah'll suan catch thoo'! As a side note, running nine times around the hole (without pause to sing) will enable the runner to hear fairies.

Bonneted Female

Rectangular Block

Norman Soldier

Location: Flamborough - Tower Field, near remains of Flamborough Castle

Further Comments: This phantom figure was observed by someone living nearby - the ghostly soldier was in full uniform, carrying a pike over one shoulder.

Stinker

Location: Flixton - General area

Further Comments: There are stories that the area around Flixton is home to a werewolf, which has glowing red eyes and a particularly bad body odour.

Parachutist

Location: Great Driffield - Driffield RAF base

Further Comments: A pilot who bailed from his aircraft above the airfield landed on the tower while in a controlled descent, though died falling from the tower onto the ground. His shade has been seen slowly parachuting onto the building.

Long Sea Monster

Ruined Twice

Location: Holme on the Wolds - Church
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: Fairies advised the people building a church here to place it at the top of the hill and not at the bottom. The builders ignored the advice and twice found their church in ruins just before completion. They moved their third attempt to the top of the hill, where it remains.

Spinner

Location: Hostock - Old spinning mill (note - Hostock was reported as being near Bolton, but cannot be found on maps)

Further Comments: A mill was said to have become haunted by a spinner who died twelve months previous. The ghost was said to appear at any time of the day or night, and workers were afraid to go anywhere alone.

Stone Thrower

Location: Hull - 22 Pennington Street (no longer standing)

Further Comments: People living at this address called police after they were bombarded by lumps of coal and stones. Police were unable to find who was responsible, and the attacks carried on for several days.

Monks

Location: Hull - Bransholme general area, including Foredyke Stream

Further Comments: Ghostly monks haunt this area, perhaps connected to the former Cistercian community wiped out by the black death. The story has resulted in wooded statues of monks being erected along the roadside.

Wet Couple

Location: Hull - Brazil Nut Company, east bank of the river Hull (now Thompson's Plastics?)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1960s and 1970s
Further Comments: Several workers at the plant reported seeing a woman and a decapitated man, both dripping wet. The phantom figures vanished within seconds of being spotted. They were said to be the parents of two children who fell into the river - the whole family drowned in the accident, though the bodies of the parents were never recovered.

Shouting Child

Floating Charlie

Further Comments: Known only by the nickname Floating Charlie, this phantom man with dark straggly hair wears a long grey coat. He has been seen several times and is often heard banging or walking around the theatre.

Beryl

Location: Hull - Manchester Arms public house

Further Comments: Lisa Fowler believed she caught the pub's phantom, nicknamed Beryl, on the CCTV camera, although the 'figure' could be lens flare. The owners have also reported the sensation of someone running fingers through hair and of glimpsing fleeting shadows which vanish.

Fast Ball

Further Comments: At least four people watched a fast moving ball, around the size of a car, pass overhead. After the object moved away, the witnesses were left with an odd static feeling.

Thick Necked Creature

Location: Hull - Off coast
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1927-1930s
Further Comments: While travelling along the coast in heavy fog, the crew of a steamship spotted what they first mistook for a mast jutting out of the water. The 'mast' then moved to the side of the ship, the men realising that it was the neck of a large creature. It then drew a large black body from out the water, then dived and vanished. Sightings of the creature continued for several years.

Mr Yates

Further Comments: A former vicar at St Mary's Lowgate, Mr Yates is considered an unlucky ghost, and those who have seen him drifting along the first floor corridor have suffered misfortune.

Raining Soot

Location: Hull - Private flats along Hessle Road

Further Comments: Two couples living in the same building started sleeping in a car at night to avoid the strange happenings in their flats. Events included one man grabbed by an unseen presence, soot raining down in a kitchen, cold spots, and screeching and banging.

Dummy Thief

Location: Hull - Private house, Orchard Park Estate
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1963-1973
Further Comments: Items would vanish, including a shaving kit and baby's dummies, while light bulbs fell from their sockets and disembodied footsteps were heard on the staircase and on the roof. A local vicar who investigated the haunting claimed other properties on the estate had similar paranormal problems.
