Charlotte Clopton

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Clopton House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Accidentally buried alive in the family vault, the mistake was realised too late, and Charlotte now traverses her home in torment. Blood issues from her mouth, where she bit off her own tongue while prematurely entombed. Two others also haunt the building - another female member of the Clopton family (Margaret) who drowned herself in the well, and a murderer who committed his crime in the chapel.

Hand

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Factory along Birmingham Road (now demolished)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1960s/70s
Further Comments: A burnt hand was seen several times pressed against windows, but when searches were made, the hand's owner could never be found. Doors would also be slammed, and one member of staff quit after hearing a voice calling for help in an empty part of the factory.

Icy Mist

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Falstaff's Experience museum, Sheep Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: January 2004
Further Comments: A team of ghost hunters holding a vigil on the site claimed to have seen a room fill up with a cold mist at one point during the night. The museum claims to be haunted by several entities, including a young female pickpocket, a dark figure with glowing red eyes, and roundheads.


Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Shakespeare's Grave

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Holy Trinity Church
Type: Curse
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: The tomb of Shakespeare has the following curse written upon it: Good frend for Jesus sake forebeare, To digg the dust encloased heare; Bleste be the man that spares thes stones, And curst be he that moves my bones.


Mercure Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Lucy and Friends

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Mercure Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twenty-first century
Further Comments: A few entities are said to haunt this location. A member of staff claimed to have spotted an old soldier running down a corridor, while Lucy haunts one of the rooms, having committed suicide after an assault.

Crashing Sounds

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Private residence
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: Strange sounds at this site ranged from disembodied footsteps to what were thought to be intruders smashing up the lower part of the house. On resident fled the site after hearing the front door open and close, followed by footsteps running up the staircase.

Woman

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - River Avon
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A local legend says that the river is haunted by a woman who stands waist-deep in the water.

Five Fliers

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - Skies over the town centre
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 21 July 2007
Further Comments: Over 100 people watched five objects moving over the town centre for a period of around thirty minutes. One witness said three of the lights formed a triangle, another hovered to one side, while the fifth light darted around. Another witness claimed they looked like little balls of flame.


The Creaky Cauldron, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Jack

Location: Stratford-upon-Avon - The Creaky Cauldron, Henley Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: A museum/magic shop, The Creaky Cauldron claims the upper part of the building is haunted by a six year old child named Jack.

Highwayman

Location: Stretton Baskerville - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: A highwayman, some say Dick Turpin himself, hid some of his takings in this deserted medieval village. He died before managing to retrieve the money, and now he rides towards the village on horseback.

Fires

Location: Studley - Private residence, Monks Drive
Type: Other
Date / Time: 1976
Further Comments: A father became convinced his home had a poltergeist after waking to find his bed on fire. He found his son fighting another fire in the living room. Crockery and windows would also be broken, although the son later admitted to police that he had caused the damage and the fires.

Monk

Location: Tamworth - Private residence near Pooley Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1994
Further Comments: Edwin Starr claimed one of his neighbour's homes to be haunted by two ghosts, one a monk and the other a crying baby.


The Devil would often lose fights against holy figures.

John Alcock

Location: Temple Grafton - Alcocks Arbour (aka Rolls Wood Hill), Croft Lane
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Present
Further Comments: Highwayman John Alcock stashed much of his ill-gotten gains in a cave under this hill, in a chest protected by three locks and guarded by a cockerel. The bird will only let treasure hunters pass if they possessed one of Alcock's bones. Another legend says the Devil created the hill; out picking nuts on Devil's Nutting Day (21 September), Old Nick stumbled across the Virgin Mary who ordered him to drop the nuts. The Devil did, thus creating the hill.

Lady Luxborough

Location: Ullenhall - Barrells Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Banished to the hall by her husband, Lady Luxborough died in 1756 after spending twenty years at the site. Her ghost was said to remain around the site for many years.

White Horse

Location: Walton - Walton Hall Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 09 October, every five years (reoccurring)
Further Comments: This pale riderless horse gallops over the gardens, twice a decade. The hotel itself is haunted by a young man, who some speculate to be the former rider of the horse.

Young Woman

Location: Warmington - Crossroads
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre 1950?
Further Comments: Little is known about the spirit of a young woman who could be seen standing at a crossroads.

Phantom Horseman

Location: Warmington - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 24 December and 31 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A phantom horseman, perhaps connected to the nearby battle site of Edge Hill, visits this area twice a year. One local man claimed to have seen a lantern being swung along a road, although no one held it.

Singing

Location: Warmington - Parish church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre mid-twentieth century
Further Comments: A phantom voice was heard to sing in the church.

Roundhead

Location: Warmington - Plough Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre mid-twentieth century
Further Comments: One old newspaper article claimed a ghostly Roundhead had been seen walking through the bar.

Lying Landlord

Location: Warwick - Anchor Inn
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A former landlord of the inn became involved in looting the dead bodies from the Battle of Edgehill; during a trial to establish his guilt in which the crook lied through his teeth, the Devil appeared and took the man straight to hell.

Piers Gaveston

Location: Warwick - Blacklow Hill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Piers Gaveston's execution procession still ascends the hill where he was stabbed with a sword before being beheaded.

Smelly Nun

Location: Warwick - Digby Court
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1820s
Further Comments: Haunted by a nun who looked like a corpse and smelled of death and decay, Digby Court remained empty for many, many years.

Thomas Oken

Location: Warwick - Doll Museum, Castle Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Heard climbing the stairs of his former property, Oken's popularity with the townsfolk may have something to do with his staying on.

Sobbing

Location: Warwick - Gibbet Hill - University of Warwick Halls of Residence
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The sounds of someone crying hysterically could occasionally be heard in this modern building. One report claimed that the newer halls of residence were built upon a demolished building which housed the bodies of those executed on the hill.

Nun

Location: Warwick - Priory Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late 1940s?
Further Comments: A man claimed to have seen a nun-like entity rise from the ground and pass through a set of railings before vanishing. The entity glowed and appeared to be missing a hand.
