Further Comments: Seen dancing within this tavern, the blonde woman was speculated to once have haunted the ruined West Pier.

The Wahoo Bar in Brighton.

Mr Webster

Location: Brighton - Wahoo Bar, West Street

Further Comments: Mr Webster, nicknamed Claude, hanged himself in 1903, when the building was a hotel. His ghost, wearing chef garb, was reportedly seen by members of staff in the late twentieth century.

Cheltenham & Gloucester, Brighton.

Unseen Presence

Further Comments: Several staff experienced something that brushed past them on a landing leading to the top floor of the building. Another person reported feeling something tap him on the shoulder in the same area.

Further Comments: Glasses are reported to fly from shelves and one room which was left tidy was found a short time later ransacked.

The YMCA in Brighton.

Woman in Long Dress

Further Comments: A guest at the site reported seeing a woman in a long dress drift along a hallway before vanishing through a wall.

The Cricketers Inn in Brighton.

Pale Man

Location: Brighton - Cricketers Inn

Further Comments: Bottles and glasses would fall off shelves, doors were heard to slam shut, and footsteps were heard climbing the stairs. On several occasions a pale man wearing a long black cloak was spotted by one manager. In addition, the grey nun which haunts the Lanes has been seen just outside the inn.

Further Comments: When this building was a hotel, it was said to be haunted by a misty male figure who would sit in the chair in one room.

Druid's Head pub, Brighton.

Hooded Figure

Further Comments: Always seen from the corner of one's eye, a good description of this spirit was never forthcoming (although it may be the ghost of a smuggler who died after tripping on the staircase in the basement). However, another ghost in the building moves slightly slower - a woman in a red dress has been seen on one occasion in the vicinity of the main bar. In 2015 a picture frame flew off a pillar and struck a visitor on the back; no one was injured and the frame did not break.

Tim

Further Comments: Tim was a brewery worker crushed to death on this site. After the cinema took over the site, staff have felt Tim's presence watching them, and the smell of brewing beer fills the air.

The Dyke Tavern in Brighton.

Woman in Grey

Further Comments: A worker spotted a woman dressed in a grey dress standing by the fireplace in the empty bar. The figure also had a grey face. She faded away.

Further Comments: A tall phantom man is said to sit in the corner of the bar watching people during busy periods.

A Brighton Eatery along Old Steine.

Young Girl

Further Comments: The basement of this building is said to be haunted by the phantom of a young girl who died in a fire on the site. The ghost is also reported to haunt the building which backs onto this location.

Evening Argus Offices, Brighton.

Darkroom Presence

Further Comments: The photographic darkroom was said to be home to a paranormal presence which climbed upon the back of a man while he worked. Another member of staff spotted a man in a tricorn hat in one of the offices.

The Regency Hotel in Brighton.

Disabled Girl

Further Comments: This young girl jumped from one of the upstairs windows - her ghost mirrors her actions, though it now vanishes as it leaps into a wall, as the window was bricked up many years ago. Another female shade that totters around the building is the Victorian landlady.

Further Comments: Seen by a Mr Dutton in 1992, a phantom young girl is said to haunt the cellar. Another witness felt a presence push past while working alone - looking up, the witness briefly spotted the shadowy figure of a tall, twenty-something woman before the entity vanished.

Further Comments: The landlord was reported to have caught ghostly activity on CCTV in this public house. Strange shapes are said to have been seen, and draughts rise and fall without apparent reason.

Breathing

Further Comments: A man was said to have problems breathing as he lay down to sleep at night, as if something was pushing down on his chest. There were no health related problems, although the case does sound like Old Hag Syndrome, aka Sleep Paralysis.

Grey Woman

Further Comments: Seen peering through the window of this converted church, the phantom woman wears a grey shawl over her head. One witness said the woman looked in her thirties and wore a matching grey dress.

Steam

Further Comments: This cinema operated from the site of an old Turkish bathhouse. Cinema staff would report the sound of running water and clouds of steam which appeared from nowhere.

Nun

Further Comments: Said to have been spotted by staff and customers, the phantom nun wearing a white habit and black cloak would vanish up a stairwell. The east end of the building was a convent.

Snaking Lights

Location: Burgess Hill - London Road area

Date / Time: September 1995, 08 July 2017
Further Comments: A married couple, along with other witnesses, observed five circular lights in the sky. The lights were different colours and 'snaked' for a few minutes before all turning white and shooting off in different directions. Twenty-two years later a witness heard a 'TV white noise' sound emerging from the sky which lasted around 20 minutes.

Boomerang

Location: Burgess Hill - Royal George Road

Further Comments: While outside, a male witness heard aircraft engines and looked to the sky. He watched a 737 appear briefly in the gap of the clouds, closely followed by another craft which was twice the size of the recognisable airplane. The latter craft was boomerang shaped with squared wing tips and dark grey or black in colour. After disappearing into the clouds, the witness did not see either craft again.

Further Comments: The last fairies in England are said to have resided here, until chased away in the 1900's by archaeologists.

Rudyard Kipling

Further Comments: The ghost of Kipling reportedly haunts his study. His fleeting shade was also seen standing by flowers in the garden.

Ancient Evil

Location: Burwash - Gladwish Wood
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Kipling called this wooded area evil, and strongly disliked the place. One ghost hunter reported it to be haunted by a farmer named David Leary, hanged after being accused of poisoning his landlord - it was later discovered that a heart attack had caused the landowner's death. Leary's angry spirit returned to the wood and has not left since.
