Buried Treasure

Location: Wendron (Cornwall) - Bodilly Farm

Further Comments: The original building which stood here was haunted by three ghostly figures, though they departed after one old lady spoke to them. Before leaving, as a reward for her kindness, the ghosts informed the woman that a wealth of treasure was buried under the farmhouse. Unfortunately, a series of accidents prevented the hoard being discovered, and now the area has been concreted over.

Jack o'Legs

Location: Weston (Hertfordshire) - Churchyard, and nearby cave

Further Comments: Jack o'Legs was said to be a very tall man (one account says fourteen feet in height) who, armed with a bow and arrow, robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. Legend says he is buried in the churchyard, and a cave somewhere near here may still contain some of his ill-gotten gains.

Further Comments: A cave hidden under the castle contains a vast collection of gold and gems. The wealth is protected by a large bird which never sleeps and attacks any who come too close to discovering the cave.

Clawed Stone

Location: Winceby (Lincolnshire) - Boulder near area known as Slash Hollow
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Moved to the side of the field in 1970
Further Comments: The stone was finally buried by a farmer, who dug a hole next to the boulder and pushed it in. A failed previous attempt had resulted in the Devil appearing who scratched the stone with his claws. The stone was believed to have been placed on top of treasure, however when the stone was finally moved to one said, no treasure (or Devil) was found.

Wagon

Pixie Party

Location: Wold Newton (East Riding of Yorkshire) - Willy Howe barrow
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: A human gatecrasher reported joining a pixie party that was occurring within this barrow - he soon ran off, not wanting to fall under a fairy spell. Another man was said to have picked up a golden coin each day from the barrow, left there for him by a fairy who liked him, although she stopped her act of generosity when the man told others of her. Finally, another story says there is treasure here, although it can never be removed.

Dunny

Location: Wooler (Northumberland) - Cave in Cockenheugh Hills, and Fowberry Bridge (and occasionally Tower)

Further Comments: Either a former Border reiver or someone who committed suicide (or maybe both), this entity would manifest as a dun coloured horse and scour the area for his lost treasure.

Golden Table

Location: Wootton Rivers? (Wiltshire) - Barrow near a farm?

Further Comments: A small team of treasure hunters were searching for a golden table, fabled to have been buried in the area. One man found the top of the table on the barrow, but as he called out to his friends, it sank beneath the ground and could not be rediscovered.

A pair of dragons.

Guarded Secret Tunnel

Location: Worthing (Sussex) - Cissbury Ring (Hillfort)

Further Comments: Leading to an untold amount of wealth, the tunnel hidden in this hillfort is guarded by a pair of snake-like dragons. The ghost of a druid is reported to haunt the site looking for this treasure, and the sound of phantom galloping horses have also been reported. Finally, another legend says the structure was formed by earth falling off the Devil's shovel as he tried to dig a hole in the South Downs.
