Further Comments: Protecting a hoard of treasure, this beast has teamed up with a raven which calls out if anyone comes too close to the gold. The beast will then wait until a rope is lowered into the pit and then sever it when the treasure hunter is climbing down. The body would always be found outside the hole in the morning.

Further Comments: A figure on horseback has been observed in the distance, holding a shield and sword. Perhaps connected to this entity, the sounds of a horse charging through woodland have been reported. There may be an additional relationship to the nearby Denbury Hill Iron Age hill fort which folklore says contains golden treasure.

Further Comments: A secret room in the moat was said to contain nine kegs of gold protected by a large black dog with a white spot. The only way to escape with the gold was to stab the dog three times with a dagger to the white spot.

Further Comments: Dressed in red cloth, the fairies would keep an eye on their treasure buried under the hillfort. Fairy pipes were said to have been found around the site.

Further Comments: Sir Guy's spirit cannot be laid to rest until he rediscovers the maiden that he once stumbled upon while hiding in these ruins from a storm. Another ghost on site is the Earl of Lancaster, executed on the site (though the executioner was so incompetent it took almost a dozen blows to remove the Earl's head). Finally, a woman lies enchanted somewhere in the ruins, and will awaken when the 'right knight' blows his horn. It is thought that the same woman is responsible for the shining stones which could once be found in the area, which were considered part of her hidden treasure to be awarded to the person who saved her.

Further Comments: The guides of the underground passages, normally open to the public, tell of a phantom cyclist who passes through the area. There is also rumoured to be hidden treasure somewhere in the tunnels.

Further Comments: After he died, the noble from Poland left a great deal of money to friends and relatives, but the hidden funds could not be found. Though his shade was seen shortly after death, no one has had the courage to face the ghost and ask where his treasure is concealed.

Coole Castle.

Further Comments: The castle is haunted by a spirit that protects a hidden pot of gold. If the treasure is removed from the castle, it is said that the ghost will not rest until it has returned the pot to the hiding place.

Further Comments: Protecting a wealth of gold and jewels, this monster tends to remain hidden unless threatened by treasure hunters. Nearby, in a sandstone rock, there is said to be the imprint of a kelpie's hoof, and the demon horse itself is said to live in a nearby pool.

Further Comments: A group of men tried to remove this stone to reach the mythical treasure beneath. A storm blew up, the wind, thunder and lightning driving them away.
Location: Freiston (Lincolnshire) - Spittal Hill Road

Further Comments: Nicknamed the Spittal Hill Tut, this ghostly entity would take the form of a small horse. The entity grabbed one man passing through the area on horseback, almost crushing him to death. Some believed that Tut existed to protect some treasure concealed beneath the hill.

Further Comments: A chest of gold remains hidden in this area and can only be discovered by treasure hunters who remain completely silent while searching for the hoard. One group of hunters discovered the treasure but then lost it after one spoke.

The story ends either with Molly being struck by lightning as she lifts the stone, a ghost scaring her away, a ghost asking her husband to name five local churches (which he fails to do), or Molly recovering the gold.
