Chatterer

Location: Clitheroe (Lancashire) - Well Hall

Date / Time: Entity unknown, 'poltergeist' 1891
Further Comments: An entity here was said to keep a former owner, an older woman, company - when the woman sat by the fireplace, the entity would join her and sit by her side. An old newspaper reported a poltergeist outbreak here in 1891, complete with loud knocks and items being thrown around. The 'poltergeist' ceased after a servant was caught moving items around by police, and later confessed to being the source.

Dancing Pixies

Location: Clocaenog Forest (Clwyd) - General area, & Craig Bron Bannog hill

Further Comments: The little people have been seen in this area for many years now, often dancing the night (and day) away.

Pwca

Location: Clydach (Gwent) - Pwll y Cwn pool

Further Comments: A water spirit, Pwca was once thought to hide out in this deep pool of water located under the waterfall here.

Party

Further Comments: The little people were said to use this area as a meeting ground.

Hidden Fairies

Further Comments: Children digging in the area were said to have unearthed a small fairy house - it later vanished, along with their digging equipment, though two small figures were observed in the area for several days afterwards.

Fairies Playing around Trees

Location: Colchester (Essex) - Victoria Road

Further Comments: An inhabitant of the road watched a group of fairies dancing around an old tree trunk.

Little Man

Location: Coleford (Gloucestershire) - Unknown building in town
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: 1926?
Further Comments: A little man-like figure was found crawling around in a coal scuttle. The figure was carried out and left on the driveway, never to be seen again.

Angry Dwarf

Location: Colne (Lancashire) - Hobstones Farm
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: 1950 to 1974
Further Comments: This entity, part fairy and part ghost, was seen many times and drove out several families, until exorcised by clergy. The bleeding severed arm was said to be the most noticeable and terrifying feature of the manifestation. Phantom cavaliers were also reported, as were violent poltergeist outbreaks.

Fairy Led

Location: Constantine Bay (Cornwall) - Near church ruins

Date / Time: Unknown, but pre twentieth century
Further Comments: Local man Jan Brewer found himself lost while walking home, despite walking the route thousands of times previous. While trying to find a familiar landmark, Jan stumbled across dozens of tiny people who formed a circle around him and compelled the man to dance. Remembering a piece of folklore concerning the local piskeys, Jan turned his coat pockets inside out; the piskeys vanished and Jan could see his home a short distance away.

Man in Antlers

Location: Cookham Dean (Berkshire) - Common

Date / Time: Summer, 1920s
Further Comments: A woman walking her two dogs spotted a man wearing a pair of antlers emerging from undergrowth. Her hounds were afraid of the figure, but she followed the man and watched as he vanished into an oak tree.

Tool Mover

Location: Coolcreedan (County Louth) - Farms in the area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: June 1949
Further Comments: Fairies would be blamed when gates were found left open and tools removed from their sheds, only to be found hanging in nearby trees.

Ugly Fairy

Location: Corsham (Wiltshire) - Churchyard

Further Comments: This little creature, standing no taller than one metre, was seen sitting upon one of the gravestones. It was once seen by two women - one fainted, the other traumatised. A third woman with them saw nothing.

Brownie

Location: Cranshaws (Borders) - Cranshaws Tower

Further Comments: This friendly entity would help keep the building clean and tidy, though it left for good after a servant criticised the quality of its work.

Home

Location: Crolly (County Donegal) - An Rampar

Further Comments: This scenic route, popular with walkers, is said to be home to fairies.

Leprechaun

Location: Crookstown (County Cork) - Fort in the area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This little fellow wore a red cap, a black jacket, long grey stockings and narrow shoes with turned up toes. His home was in a row of bushes which grew close to the fort. Most people knew not to go near the bushes, but Mr Sullivan decided that they needed a trim. After a few minutes cutting away, he severed the top of his finger, so quit the task.

Goblins

Location: Crossways (Dorset) - Buck Barrow, Knighton Heath Wood

Further Comments: The name of this barrow implies it was once believed to be haunted by goblins or other fairy folk.

Little Workers

Location: Crowle (Lincolnshire) - Unfinished road (now likely to be finished)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A farmer met a man who said that he could complete the construction of an unfinished road out of the village if the farmer promised not to watch. The farmer agreed but sneaked a peek, spotting dozens of little men working on the road. In an instant, the little men vanished. It was said that the road could never be finished, although after a quick look on Google Maps, this author was unable to spot an unfinished road.

Dancing Sheppard

Location: Crymch (Dyfed) - Freni-Fawr mountain

Further Comments: A youth tending to his sheep was convinced to dance by a small group of fairies - when he did, he was transported to fairyland, but returned to the mountain once he stopped his jig.

Tiny Soldiers

Location: Crymych (Dyfed) - Frenni Fawr (mountain)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A young shepherd spotted small, uniformed fairies dancing to a harp on the mountainside. He joined them and was instantly transported to fairyland. He was told he could eat or drink anything, but not to touch the water in a certain well. As expected, the shepherd did so, and was instantly teleported back to the mountain.

Fairy Circle

Location: Cwm (Carmarthenshire) (Dyfed) - Unknown meadow in the area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown, likely pre-nineteenth century
Further Comments: A child was warned to stay away from a meadow containing three rings made with grass that looked like 'weaved around the edges', as fairies had created them. Anyone foolish enough to enter the rings could never escape.

Red Fairies

Location: Cwm Dugoed (Gwynedd) - Woodland near the valley

Further Comments: The red haired fairies in this area lived underground and would steal cattle from neighbouring farms. It has been speculated that these fairies were actually normal bandits who have since gained mythical status.

Tylwyth Teg

Location: Cwm y Llan (Gwynedd) - General area of the valley

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The Tylwyth Teg, a race of fairies believed to be the souls of druids, are thought to reside in this valley.

Fairy Assault

Location: Cwmcarn (was known as Abergwyddon up to 1817) (Gwent) - Trwyn Farm
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Pre-1817
Further Comments: The farm owners would leave milk and bread out for the local fairy to ensure it did not create mischief. On one occasion, a servant drank the milk and ate the bread, and left only water and crusts for the entity. A short time later the servant was grabbed by unseen hands and flung around, and a voice warned never to commit the offense again.

Malekin

Location: Dagworth (Suffolk) - The house of Sir Osberni de Bradewelle
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: 1189-1199
Further Comments: Malekin would converse with the family of Sir Osberni de Bradewelle, sharing people's secrets and humouring householders in the voice of a one year old child. The entity would speak in both English and Latin, and while Malekin could be heard and felt, he only appeared once; manifesting as a child dressed in a white tunic to a woman who agreed not to try and touch him. Malekin claimed that he had been born in Lavenham, removed from a field after being left there by his mother, and he had a hat which made him invisible.
