The Supervisor

Further Comments: The 'Supervisor' is the most spoken about ghost that haunts this site. He is said to have been mistaken for a 'real' person by several people who only realise their mistake when he vanishes in front of them. Two other entities are reputed to haunt the mills; a woman who is thought to have been raped and murdered on site, and a pair of legs seen to walk around without a torso.

Light Switcher

Location: Mansfield - Private house, Ruskin Road

Further Comments: A family moved from this property after they were joined by a spirit that broke crockery and enjoyed causing the lights to flicker.

Flying Saucepan

Location: Mansfield - Private residence, Byron Street
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 21 March 1973 - May 1974
Further Comments: This poltergeist threw a saucepan, pushed over the dining table, and would turn gas and electrical appliances on at night. The young children reported seeing a male figure in their bedroom. It was reported that the activity died down after a visit from a Huthwaite evangelist.

Victorian Nurse

Further Comments: Said to haunt the building, this Victorian nurse reputedly took her life after her love was rejected by a doctor. Unfortunately, the hospital was not constructed until circa 1948, so little credence should be given to this story.

Female Form

Further Comments: The ghostly form of a woman has been reported by locals as haunting this pub, normally seen at the top of the staircase.

Elderly Lady

Location: Mansfield Woodhouse - Library
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: An elderly woman is reported to haunt this building, as is (unless it is the same entity) a faceless monk that walks through walls and closed doors as if they were not there.

Red Head

Location: Mansfield Woodhouse - Manor House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: Over the years, several people reported encountering a woman in the building with vivid red hair.

Little Old Lady

Location: Mansfield Woodhouse - Parliament Oak public house (no longer operational)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Sighting unknown, voices heard in 1996
Further Comments: A customer in the pub reportedly watched an elderly woman walk through a wall and cross the corridor, before disappearing into another wall. Disembodied breathing and voices were also reported in the toilets.

George

Location: Mansfield Woodhouse - Portland Arms public house

Further Comments: A former doorman and jack-of-all-trades, George may have been seen standing by the fireplace, even though he has been dead for decades. George is also blamed when small items disappear, and pumps are toyed with in the cellar.

White Woman

Location: Mansfield Woodhouse - The Vale woodland and surrounding area

Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The woodland is said to be haunted by a white female form. She is thought to be connected to the ruins of a house on the outskirts of the woodland.

Monk

Location: Mattersey - Mattersey Priory (also known as Mathersey or Maresey Priory)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1989
Further Comments: This ghostly monk is rarely seen, though does sport a traditional long, hooded cloak with wide sleeves.

Lady in Green

Location: Misterton - Pump House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1990, 2014
Further Comments: The woman drowned in an accident in the river, her body beaten around by the pump house. She was spotted in 1990 walking around the area, accompanied by a drop in temperature, and again in 2014, by a horse rider.

POWs

Location: Netherfield - Railway track behind Jackie Bells public house

Further Comments: A CCTV system at the pub was said to have picked up the sounds of German prisoners of war singing, the sound coming from the area of the railway line. The track was once used to transport POWs, and the area beyond the pub was a holding area. The ghostly figure of a man has also been observed walking along the track, vanishing without warning.

Prisoner

Further Comments: A transparent, ghostly man with a chain attached to his leg is said to hobble down this road.

Readying for Battle

Location: Newark - Appleton Gate

Further Comments: The sound of sword and horse is said to occasionally be heard around this area.

Victorians

Location: Newark - Balderton Hall

Further Comments: This building is said to be haunted by two elderly female ghosts dressed in blue Victorian dresses. Another Victorian girl, this time young and blonde, is also said to run down a corridor before vanishing. Finally, the ghost of an US pilot has been spotted walking around the grounds.

Woman in Black

Further Comments: A former cleaning lady at the bank reported encountering a grey haired woman wearing a long black dress, carrying a pile of towels, who disappeared through a door.

Polish Airman

Location: Newark - Cemetery

Further Comments: This man in uniform has been observed standing by headstones in the Polish section of the cemetery, leading some to speculate that he was a Polish airman from the Second World War.

Footsteps

Location: Newark - Governor's House, Harvest Bakery

Further Comments: The sound of footsteps in the loft and the smell of violets were said to haunt this bakery during the early 1990s.

Prince Rupert

Location: Newark - Kirkgate House

Further Comments: Prince Rupert of the Rhine led the relief of Newark in 1644 - the town must have left an impression on him, as he appears to still haunt the building he rested at.

George

Further Comments: The phantom man in Victorian clothing and a flat cap, nicknamed George, was seen briefly by one member of staff as he vanished into a closed fridge door.

Thrown Stones

Further Comments: Investigated by NgritUK, the team reported stones being thrown and strange flashes of light.

Stomper

Location: Newark - Old Kings Arms public house

Further Comments: This poltergeist opens and slams doors, moves furniture around and creates stomping noises.

Lady Ossington

Location: Newark - Ossington Coffee Tavern
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1980
Further Comments: The coffee shop was constructed by Lady Ossington as a temperance tavern. Opening in 1882, the building failed to attract a crowd and soon became a hotel, but remained alcohol free. It is said that when alcohol was finally sold on the site, a portrait of Lady Ossington would leap off the wall in protest.

Further Comments: Disembodied footsteps are said to permeate the darkness once everyone has left the theatre at night, and doors open and close as if an unseen person has passed through them.
