Old Woman

Location: Liverpool - 82 Wimborne Road, Huyton (house no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1958
Further Comments: A family living here were terrified by a phantom old lady who stood five-foot tall, bent over with a walking stick. Her face was little more than a shrivelled skull. Builders working close to the site quit once they heard an exorcism had taken place. The house has since been demolished.

Small Woman

Location: Liverpool - 9 and 11 South Hunter Street (houses demolished in early 1960s)

Date / Time: Circa 1953
Further Comments: Seen by a mother and daughter on separate occasions, this phantom was described as a small woman wearing a lace cap and soft shawl. She was semi-transparent and vanished when approached.

George

Glowing Ball

Location: Liverpool - Allerton Hall, Clarke's Gardens
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The hall is reputedly haunted by former residents and ghost hunts on the site have turned up flashes of light and sightings of glowing balls. An 'orb' caught on camera featured in the press in 2014.

The Sarge

Location: Liverpool - Ambulance training centre, Quarry Street, Woolton
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1974
Further Comments: For many years the building was reputedly haunted by an entity known as 'The Sarge' - a former policeman killed when the wheel of his patrol wagon struck a bollard and he was thrown to the ground. Ambulance crews reported phantom footsteps, breaking windows and doors which unlocked and opened themselves.

Flag Waver

Location: Liverpool - Area around former Otterspool rail station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Before closing in 1951, a teenager was saved by a man from being hit by a train, although the rescuer was killed in the process. He is said to wave a red warning flag in the area.

Smells and Shadows

Location: Liverpool - Battle of the Atlantic Bunker

Further Comments: A visitor to the site could smell perfume where a Wren had fallen to her death, spotted strange shadows, and experienced the sensation of being followed. When the witness returned years later, the location had changed and they experienced nothing untoward, although stories tell of figures in naval uniform who walk through walls.

Time Slip

Location: Liverpool - Bold Street

Further Comments: On various dates, several people (including an off duty policeman) have reported slipping back in time along this road, finding them surrounded by people dressed in clothing of the 1940s, with a cobbled street and old style shops.

Spookside

Location: Liverpool - Brookside Close

Further Comments: It was reported in the local press that the cast of 'The Close', a low budget British horror film being filmed at the former soap opera site, regarded the set as haunted. Lights would flicker out at inopportune moments, items would disappear, and the final scene of the film was constantly cancelled as bad weather would come from nowhere.

George

Earl of Sefton

Location: Liverpool - Croxteth Hall

Date / Time: Late twentieth century, camera in April 2009, most recently July 2013
Further Comments: The Sixth Earl of Sefton has been sighted walking through the tearoom and in his former bedroom. An incorporeal young boy was once seen standing by the fireplace in the dining room, while other strange shadows have been reported drifting down various corridors. Footage from a CCTV camera in April 2009 reputedly shows a phantom figure moving across the grounds, though the image is more likely to be a close-up of an insect. Two people exploring the basement in 2013 encountered a short hideous figure in a cloak, before later spotting the figure on the staircase where he vanished.

Gin Runner

Location: Liverpool - David Lewis Northern Hospital

Further Comments: Beaten to death nearby by Customs officers who caught the man trying to bring his illicit goods ashore, the ghost of the smuggler has been reported in the hospital that was built close to the site of his murder.

Piping

Pale Figure

Hanging Highlanders

Location: Newton le Willows - Hermitage Green Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: August (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Caught by Cromwellian troops, these Highlanders were immediately hanged on the surrounding trees. The sound of running can be heard around the anniversary of the executions. A couple of people here in January 1990 heard loud drumming which moved down the lane, though nothing could be seen.

Old Lady in a White Hat

Location: Newton le Willows - Private residence, Fern Avenue

Further Comments: A family living at this council house moved in with neighbours after encountering a ghostly older woman wearing a white hat. Bangs, taps, and sounds of breaking glass were also heard.

Bride

Location: Newton le Willows - Willow Park (and other meres and woods in the area)

Date / Time: 1947, and September 1949
Further Comments: This woman in white is said to be a bride murdered by her husband on their wedding night hundreds of years ago. She may have last been seen by a married couple who spotted a figure with folded arms standing amongst trees. Two years prior to this sighting, two women passing Castle Hill observed the phantom woman in white.

Modern Myth?

Green Lady

Location: Sefton - Fields by the church

Further Comments: At least four army cadets returning to their HQ observed a green lady wearing an old fashioned dress and cardigan. Although her legs could not be seen, it looked as if the figure floated while crossing the fields and heading towards the church.

Presence on the Stairs

Little Boy

Karaoke Screaming

Location: Sefton - Private residence, Park Lane area
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1994 to mid-2000s
Further Comments: The poltergeist here would unlock doors, turn lights on and move furniture around. In one instance screaming lasting five minutes emerged from a karaoke machine which had been stored on top of a wardrobe untouched for over a year.

Floating Seaman

Location: Sefton - Punch Bowl Inn and nearby churchyard

Further Comments: Thought to have drowned at sea and his body stored in the inn until burial, this blue clothed sailor has been observed floating around the building. Sometimes only his head and shoulders are visible, protruding from a misty base. The entity was also once seen nearby, appearing to be digging at a grave in the churchyard.

Face at the Window

Location: Southport - Private residence near Meols Cop Station
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2012-2016
Further Comments: Lights would turn on and off, small items would be moved or thrown at occupants, and footsteps heard coming down the staircase. A shadowy figure would occasionally be spotted, and the face of an older person appeared at a bedroom window. The activity ceased after a blessing.
