Shouting Man

Location: Montrose - Lunan Lodge
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Several entities are reported to haunt this manse, including a loud man in plus-fours and a flat hat, a maid, a stable boy and an unknown presence which manifests on the stairs.

Firey Figure

Location: Montrose - Unnamed hill in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Sometime before 1811
Further Comments: Several young men ascended the hill to investigate the figure which would be seen vanishing in a fiery blaze every night. The figure appeared at midnight; a man with long shaggy hair and beard, carrying a bloodied rapier. When asked what he wanted, the hairy phantom pointed towards another ghostly figure which had appeared, this entity wearing chain mail and a black mask. Both ghosts vanished.

White Figure

Location: Newtyle - Bulb Farm (no longer standing, replaced by housing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 02 June (reoccurring), or thereabouts, after sunset
Further Comments: A white figure, thought to be decapitated, was said to move slowly around the area, as if looking for its missing body part. Groaning is also heard in the area.

A kelpie.

Captured Kelpie

Location: River North Esk - Ponnage (aka Pontage, aka Ferry) Pool
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A mortal managed to catch a water spirit by using a magical bridle and forced the creature to move stones to Morphie to assist in the building of a castle. One day the bridle was accidently removed; the kelpie escaped, shouting a curse which resulted in the castle being demolished.

Well Monster

Location: Strathmartine - Nine Maiden's Well (now buried, exact location not known)
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A dragon which guarded a well managed to eat nine maidens who came one by one to draw water. It was finally slain by a man named Martin, due to be married to the youngest maiden.

White Cat

Location: Turin - Fields near Turin House
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Day time, Summer, 1989
Further Comments: A mother and daughter watched a large white cat close to woodland over a period of fifteen to twenty minutes. They compared the size of the cat to that of a deer.

Non Sinking Church

Location: Vigeans - Church of St Vigeans
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Circa 1736
Further Comments: Legend said that building materials for the church were carried into position by a water kelpie. The creature said if anyone working for the church ever took their own life, the church would sink into a great lake which lay deep under the building. In the eighteenth century the minister of the parish committed suicide and some stories say many people gathered near the church to watch it being consumed into the ground. Needless to say, many people were also left disappointed when their expectations were not met.
