Card Players

Location: Holbeach - All Saint's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A small gambling party of men were caught by Satan playing cards in the churchyard. The four shades now glimpsed in the porch of the church remain a warning to any who dare do the same. The ghost of Sir Humphrey Littlebury also haunts the building.

Angry Nun

Location: Humberston - Manor House

Further Comments: Built on the site of a nunnery, this house developed a reputation for being haunted by a nun killed for breaking her vows. Loud bangs would wake the family up at night, and a strange light would float along the ceiling in one of the bedrooms.

Woman in Black

Location: Isle of Axholme (aka Isle of Axholm) - Thornholmes Farm

Further Comments: This phantom, said to wear a black silken gown, had an unknown connection to a religious building that stood here before construction of the farm.

Man in Beige

Location: Keadby - Bridge

Further Comments: Two people walking close to the bridge spotted a man standing upon it, although the figure vanished 'in the blink of an eye'. The witnesses described the man as six foot tall and wearing a beige raincoat and hat.

Hitching Airman

Location: Kelstern - Road leading to the former RAF Kelstern

Further Comments: The man dressed in an old RAF uniform tries to hitch a lift to the now ruined airbase. There are also reports of the sounds of an old aircraft in the skies and along the former runways.

Location: Kelvedon Hatch - Secret Nuclear Bunker

Further Comments: This former nuclear bunker is said to be home to a poltergeist. An unconvincing photograph taken in 2013 showed either a 'portal' or the reflection of flash off a window.

Shuck Home

Location: Kirton - Belle Hole Farm, and nearby stream
Type: Shuck

Further Comments: A shuck is said to have set up home in a hole in the stream bank near this farmhouse. The farmer's wife reported seeing the creature enter the kitchen - she dared not move until the shuck left on its own accord.

Victorian Woman

Further Comments: This public house is reputed to be haunted by a Victorian woman, spotted at the top of the staircase. One version of the story says she may be responsible for pushing people as they descend.

Screaming

Location: Kirton in Lindsey - Former RAF base

Date / Time: Post-Second World War (screaming), pilot spotted 1990-1995
Further Comments: The phantom screams of pain are thought to date from an air raid which killed many French pilots. One of these men has also been observed lurking by an old hangar and may have been spotted during the early 1990s by two witnesses in the clubhouse.

Copeman

Further Comments: A man named Copeman murdered along the road may still haunt the area on horseback. Two men cycling back from Kirton spotted the ghostly horseman.

Lady-faced Dog

Location: Knaith - Area around cottage, no longer standing

Further Comments: A story here tells of a shuck that possessed the face of a woman, or sometimes a woman who had the face of a dog. The hound would emerge from the hills close to where the lady lived. The entity is thought to have once been a normal woman who underwent the transformation after being murdered.

Footsteps

Location: Laughton (8 miles south of Scunthorpe) - All Saint's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: Mysterious footsteps, belonging to a small group of ghostly people, have been heard coming down the staircase in the church tower. A builder repairing the tower refused to work alone after twice encountering the footfalls.

Calf Sized Dog

Location: Leverton - Road between village and Wrangle

Date / Time: Early twentieth century or December 2002
Further Comments: An early twentieth century witness reported seeing this creature several times over the years, always when cycling at night between the two villages. A more recent witness heard howling and spotted two red eyes - after the witness's uncle died a short time later, they believed what they had encountered had been a shuck.

Grey Lady

Further Comments: Wearing a long dress, this phantom woman caused one cleaner to run away terrified. The ghost has also been seen standing outside the building - the witness this time described the woman as having a blurry face. The pub is also reportedly plagued by general poltergeist behaviour.

Humphrey

Further Comments: Staff have nicknamed this young phantom lad Humphrey. He occasionally appears to run around the shop. A young girl is also said to haunt the building, as is the sound of money being counted.

Young Boy

Location: Lincoln - Coffee shop (exact location withheld)

Further Comments: It was reported the presence of a young boy had been spotted close to the toilets in this coffee shop. One member of staff spotted a middle aged man in a grey suit upstairs in the cafe just as the shop was closing and empty of customers. When the member of staff went upstairs to speak to the man, he had vanished.

Young Man

Location: Lincoln - Cornhill Vaults public house (no longer open)

Further Comments: A member of staff was left puzzled after seeing a young man with a collarless shirt walk up to the bar and vanish when she turned her back for a few seconds. The only other customer in the bar denied seeing any one else enter.

Dark Shadows

Further Comments: Jade Callaby reported to local media that she had experienced poltergeist occurrences over a six year period, including dark shadows which appeared without source, electrical items which turned themselves on and off, and strange banging noises.

County Assembly Rooms, Lincoln.

Cavalier

Location: Lincoln - County Assembly Rooms, Bailgate

Further Comments: A phantom Cavalier was spotted by a member of staff near the ballroom, before vanishing into the preverbal thin air. Other staff members are reportedly too afraid to venture down into the basement after hearing strange noises.
