Further Comments: Reported in 2008, shadows were said to pass people who are in the cellar, while coughing was also sometimes heard under the pub. Phantoms of a man, woman and young girl were also reported, and customers said to occasionally feel a presence close by. Ten years prior to these reports, two people staying at the pub were awoken by banging coming from behind a locked door on the third floor.

Further Comments: Staff witnessed a shadowy grey spiral which would appear around the building. They believed the shape to be the manifestation of a Victorian woman named Esther, buried in an adjoining graveyard, and who was known for her dislike of drinking and gambling.

Further Comments: The family were killed in a fire while living in the last terrace house. Their ghosts were reportedly caught on film by a photographer taking a picture of a woman on horseback outside the building.

Further Comments: Smoke was spotted emerging from a closed dresser drawer and the smell of burning detected, but when the drawer was opened, no fire could be found. The following night, the dresser moved forward with ornaments thrown off.

Further Comments: While walking her dogs, this witness spotted a nun-like figure standing over the pond. The witness looked briefly away to regain control of her dogs, and when she looked back the figure had gone.

Further Comments: A former cotton spinning mill, the site is now home to mysterious whistles which have been caught on EVP in the Engine House and the Heritage Room. Disembodied footsteps, children laughing, and crying have also been heard and icy cold blasts of air experienced.

Further Comments: It was reported that dozens of pairs of eyes would look out of bushes along this lane, and that they belonged to the 368 people who died in an accident at Pretoria Pit. Prior to this disaster, miners on route to work would sometimes encounter the sound of an invisible horse which ran past them.

Further Comments: Former home of the Moors Murderers, neighbours once reported the sounds of children crying, months after the pair of killers had been sentenced to imprisonment.

Further Comments: Two children were taken to hospital suffering from shock after seeing the ghost of Mrs Potter, a widow murdered in the flat two years previous. The presence told the girls to 'wait for me in this room' before touching one of them on the mouth.

Further Comments: Owners of this establishment called the police when they heard lots of movement in the building when it should have been empty - after a long search, no one was found, and nothing was either moved or removed. The strange sounds continued for several weeks.

Further Comments: Anglers fishing in this area reported a cat the size of a cocker spaniel which often appeared at day and night.

Further Comments: Walking home with her two daughters, Lynda Jones and the children watched a twenty metre long orange/pink oval craft drop into a field. When they approached to take a better look, the ufo had changed to a grey colour and was hovering sixty centimetres above the ground. They all ran away after one daughter started screaming, and in later hypnotherapy Lynda recalled being abducted by almost human figures in jumpsuits.

Further Comments: Several ghosts were reputed to haunt the hall. Saint Ambrose Barlow is said to walk the upper part of the hall, as is a (sometimes headless) woman. A servant who drowned in the lake after poorly executed practical joke went wrong sometimes returns to run towards the Mersey. A poltergeist-like entity carries coal and moves other items between rooms.

Further Comments: Footsteps have been heard by officers on the nightshift and an old timecard machine occasionally clangs as people walk past. A former female prisoner is said to haunt the corridor outside her cell.
