Large Black Cat

Further Comments: A driver reported passing along this road and slowing down for what they assumed was a large black dog. As they approached, they realised the creature was in fact a very large black cat.

Chiltern Puma

Location: Wendover - RAF Halton housing estate
Type: ABC
Date / Time: May 1983, and 2005
Further Comments: In May 1983, four women encountered the 'Chiltern Puma' while walking through the estate - the creature passed within three metres of the group. The cat was seen a half dozen times during that year, in over a three week period, all within a thirteen mile radius. In 2005 another witness reported seeing a large black creature close to the old RAF hospital site.

Horse and Half A Rider

Location: Wendover - Steep road off the M40, though Wendover Woods
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2004
Further Comments: Recorded by the local press, a man reported that his wife had seen a horse pass in front of the car in which she was travelling, and upon the creature was the bottom half of a rider - the figure was not visible above legs. The driver of the car did not spot anything.

Susan

Location: West Wycombe - George and Dragon public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Susan was killed when a prank went wrong - she was so upset she attacked the people responsible and was mortally wounded as they defended themselves. She died in a guest room at the public house. Since then, the pale white form of Sukie (as she is affectionately known) has been observed in bedrooms and by the fireplace.

Paul Whitehead

Location: West Wycombe - West Wycombe Park, caves under the hill

Further Comments: West Wycombe was the location of a Hell-Fire Club, with Paul Whitehead a fully fledged and enthusiastic member. He has apparently found it hard to leave his membership behind post-mortem.

Mavis

Location: Westcott - Westcott Sports and Social Club

Further Comments: The phantom has been nicknamed Mavis and is said to have been present since the site was the mess for the former airfield. Mavis is blamed for moving snooker balls, creating footsteps, and occasionally briefly manifesting.

Strange Spot

Location: Westcott - Westcott to Ashendon road, top of Lynch Hill

Further Comments: It was reported that dogs would react strangely at the top of the hill, their hair standing on end.

A phantom Roman soldier.

Further Comments: This Roman soldier is said to march across this area, parallel to Akeman Street, one of the UK's ancient Roman roads. He is said to glow in the dark.

Grey Lady

Location: Whaddon - Lowndes Arms public house and motel

Further Comments: A grey lady and other shadowy figures are said to have made their home in this pub. Poltergeist activity has also been reported - items move around, doors open, and objects are moved around in locked rooms.

Rustling

Location: Whitchurch - Creslow Manor House (now a farm)

Further Comments: The manor house had a haunted guestroom, in which one could hear the rustling of a silk dress. One witness saw the female ghost, and tried to grab her, only to see the figure vanish.

Watcher

Location: Wolverton - Private residence, Victoria Street

Further Comments: One of the contributors in the book 'I Grew up in Wolverton Too' recalled the ghost of a previous inhabitant of their childhood home who would enter her room and watch her sleep.

Chair Tilting

Location: Wooburn Green - Private residence, Windsor Hill
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: November 1967 - February 1968
Further Comments: This poltergeist first made its presence known by moving chairs from the walls and tilting them against a lounge table. The furniture moving continued, although the owner said he enjoyed having a ghost as company.

The ghost of Dick Turpin.

Further Comments: The ghost of a highwayman, thought to be Dick Turpin, haunts the Bury Lane approach towards the Old Swan Inn that once acted as one of his many hideouts.
