Created from several
small counties in 1974, the West Midlands is a little over 347
square miles in size. At its heart lays Birmingham, the administrative
centre, though several other large population centres exist in
the compact county which is dominated by heavy industry and manufacture.
Of all the places in the county, Coventry is particularly of interest – ghosts
and legends are plentiful, a few relating to the terrible bombing
which virtually levelled the city during World War Two.
