Coffin Makers

Location: Aghacashlaun - Corargeen (fort)

Further Comments: The fairies which lived at this fort were said to have borrowed a man's hatchet to make a coffin for a neighbour's child two weeks prior to his death.

Cattle

Location: Annadale - Road in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Likely to be nineteenth century
Further Comments: A herd of phantom cattle was once said to walk around this area at night. The location was also home to a Puca which leapt upon a local man's back - he managed to stab the entity with a penknife and throw it to the ground. When he returned to the scene the following day, he found a wooden log with a knife-sized hole along one side.

Misty

Location: Ballyconnell - Rocks close to Dara Fort
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2009
Further Comments: The area surrounding two circular rocks with a third placed on top is reputedly haunted.

Victorian Woman

Location: Glenade - Unidentified house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Sometime between 1960-2008
Further Comments: The ghostly Green Lady that famously haunts a location in Ballyshannon was seen looking from a top floor window in a house in this area. The entity wore Victorian clothing.


The lough ran red with blood.

Mistaken Horse

Location: Kiltubrid - Lough Caogh (aka Blind Lake)
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A lad working on the fields near the lough spotted a stray pony and tied it to his harrow (a large rake). Unbeknown to the boy, the pony was in fact a water horse - the creature bolted to the lough, taking the lad with him. The lad's screams brought people running to the area, but it was too late - the lough was red with the boy's blood.

Peist

Location: Lough Allen (Aillionn) - Waters of the lough
Type: Cryptozoology

Further Comments: This lough is said to be home to a water monster, although no further information is available.

Finn's Dog

Location: Lough Bran (or Brin) - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: McCool's hunting dog, Bran, drowned in this body of water - the area was named after the faithful hound. Bran's ghost now haunts the lake.

Long Creature

Location: Lough Bran (or Brin) - Waters of the Lough
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1940
Further Comments: Stories of this creature date back many years, thought the description varies considerably. The more recent sightings imply the monster to be a giant eel, greater than four metres in length.

The Hunger Stone

Location: Sliabh An Iarainn - Unknown stone at base of mountain
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: At the base of the Iron Mountain is a magical stone (fear gorta) said to create an insatiate appetite on any who stands upon it.
