Children Playing

Further Comments: The sounds of children playing and laughing have been heard in the carpark, although when people have checked on the children's welfare, no one can be found.


Genaprugwirion

Location: Abersoch (Gwynedd) - Burrows in the area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown - twentieth century?
Further Comments: Also known as a cenaprugwirion, this lizard is around thirty centimetres long with an orange head and large eyes. Karl Shuker has speculated that the creature is a tuatara, a living fossil found in New Zealand.


John Jenkins

Location: Abertillery (Gwent) - Barn near Abertillery House (no longer standing?)
Type: Post-Mortem Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-twentieth century
Further Comments: John Jenkins hanged himself in the barn and was discovered by his sister. The woman's screams attracted the attention of a resident of Abertillery House, who looked in the direction of the barn and watched a 'resemblance of a man' violently rotating towards the river.


Radiant Maiden

Location: Abertridwr (Gwent) - Area around the Old Mill footbridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: At least one witness watched this glowing figure cross the bridge late one dark night. She has also been seen on the nearby football field, gliding towards the footbridge.


Rapping

Location: Abertridwr (Gwent) - Unidentified house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1906
Further Comments: A man named Craze lived in the property and was said to have experienced strange knocking and groans which were said to emerge from the kitchen floor. After newspapers reported the story, it would appear Craze was boycotted by other miners.


Fairy Funeral

Location: Aberystruth (Gwent) - Church Lane
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A small procession of fairies was reported travelling along the lane towards the church to bury one of their own. Another version of the story says the funeral was ghostly in nature, and when a living man reached out to help carry the coffin, everything vanished, with the man only left holding a horse's skull.


Bathing Mermaid

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Cliffs near the town
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: July 1826
Further Comments: Twelve people watched a beautiful pale woman washing herself in the sea, with what appeared to be a black tail splashing around behind her.


Beast of Bont

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Countryside surrounding the area
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 1990s
Further Comments: Something here killed over fifty sheep in the space of a year; police marksmen were called in to comb the area.


Brown Man

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Crossroads en route to Waun Fawr
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1901
Further Comments: While newspapers reported that a phantom had taken up haunting the lanes in this area, local police maintained that it was a case of mistaken identity - a witness had observed a person in the distance and panicked needlessly.


Cheated Devil

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Devil's Bridge
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The Devil is said to have built the bridge for an old lady - he expected her soul as a reward but ended up with that of a dog instead. Crossing the bridge at night is said to risk the Devil pushing you off as revenge for the old woman's treachery. Another legend says that a ghost that haunted a nearby house was banished to a cavern under the bridge where it now works.


Headless Hound

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - General area of Penparcau
Type: Shuck

Further Comments: This headless dog was said to have once belonged to a young giant who ran so fast that he decapitated the dog by pulling too sharply on the leash.


Saint Padarn

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Lanbadarn Fawr
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Sixth century
Further Comments: Lanbadarn Fawr was founded by Padarn. King Arthur once tried to steal Padarn's tunic but was seen. Padarn then caused the ground to open and swallow Arthur, where the king remained until he apologised.


Edna

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Market Hall
Type: Poltergeist

Further Comments: After claims that items had been snatched from the hands of traders by an unseen force and objects moving without reason, one paranormal investigator said the ghost was Edna, who once ran the fruit and vegetable stall.


Cloaked Gentleman

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Nanteos House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1984
Further Comments: One of several ghosts reported to haunt the house, the cloaked figure disrupted a video unit sent to shoot several TV scenes here to such an extent, the crew refused to work after dark. The other ghosts comprise of a phantom horseman and two spectral women, one of whom appears before a death. The building is also thought to have once contained part of the Holy Grail.


White Model Boat

Location: Aberystwyth (Dyfed) - Private residence near Penparcau Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2013 - 2022
Further Comments: This property experienced poltergeist-like effects, including unexplained knocking and shuffling. On one occasion, a small white model boat dropped into the lap of one witness, while on another, a coat hung outside to dry was found folded on a bed.


Greyhound

Location: Amlwch (Gwynedd) - Stone circle between village & St Ellian Church
Type: Shuck

Further Comments: A phantom hound was said to haunt this prehistoric site - it beat up a local preacher a couple of times before moving on to a further plane of existence.


Screaming in the Basement

Location: Ammanford (Dyfed) - Unidentified house
Type: Other
Date / Time: June 2018, ongoing as of June 2019
Further Comments: A couple who had lived eleven uneventful years in their home fled after recording screaming and voices coming from beneath their basement. The couple claimed to have recorded hundreds of hours of strange sounds which they believe to come from a secret underground criminal lair. A newspaper report stated that the police had been made aware but had not found anything suspicious.


Run and Shout

Location: Anglesey (Gwynedd) - RAF Valley
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Having just locked the main hangar, the key orderly heard a shout and the sound of running from within. He unlocked the hangar, but no one was could be seen.


Black Cat

Location: Anglesey (Gwynedd) - Road towards Wylfa
Type: ABC
Date / Time: October 2011
Further Comments: While driving to the power station, this witness spotted a black cat larger than an Alsatian. The creature had a long bushy tail and sat in a crouched position. The witness watched the creature for three or four seconds and was slightly unnerved by it.


Ivy

Location: Anglesey (Gwynedd) - Ruins of Onions public house, Red Wharf Bay
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Ivy Nettleton was murdered by her husband who unsuccessfully tried to conceal her body on the nearby beach. The flitting white figure seen within the ruins of the pub is said to be Ivy's troubled shade.


Panther-Like Creature

Location: Anglesey (Gwynedd) - Several areas over the island, including Llandona Beach
Type: ABC

Further Comments: A large black cat, thought to be either a puma or panther, has been blamed for attacking horses and stealing foals.


White Lady

Location: Babell (Clwyd) - Black Lion public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 2013
Further Comments: Some people believe that the white lady is a former landlady who died a couple of hundred years ago. The entity was blamed for mild poltergeist pranks, such as turning up the volume on the radio or removing items nailed to walls.


Shadowy Figure

Location: Baglan (West Glamorgan) - Bwlch area and Tylefedwen Farm
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This ghost would move across the area before finally stopping at Tylefedwen Farm where it would point to a mine's air shaft before vanishing.


Beast of Baglan

Location: Baglan (West Glamorgan) - General area and surrounding countryside
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 1980s onwards
Further Comments: Known about by locals for many years, stories of the big cat were not taken seriously until 2005 when an off-duty police officer spotted the creature along Ladies Walk. Hair and print analysis showed the cat to be a puma.


Lost City

Location: Bala (Gwynedd) - Bala Lake
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: City unknown, Teggie observed March 1995
Further Comments: The first town of Bala is said to be concealed under the waters of this lake. In addition, a monster seen in 1995 and nicknamed 'Teggie' by locals, was described as resembling a humped crocodile, although a story published in the same year claimed recent sightings of the creature were a hoax. Teggie sightings date back to the 1960s, and the creature may have first been encountered by two men boating in the lake.
