Victorian Man

Further Comments: As well as the traditional disembodied footsteps, a Victorian gentleman and a fifteenth century woman are said to haunt the site.

Chambermaid

Location: Conwy - Castle Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s-1990s?
Further Comments: A few days from death, a chambermaid from the inn requested that her body be sent back to Anglesey. The landlord at first agreed, though failed to carry out her last wish, and soon after the building was besieged by otherworldly activity. The owner finally had the body returned to her home, but the ghost has still been seen in the hotel. A phantom cat has also been felt climbing over beds at night.

Llys Helig

Location: Conwy - Conway Bay
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Llys Helig was a mythical palace, which was sunk to punish its evil owner. The ruins of the walls can sometimes be seen at low tide, though in recent years it has been discovered that the rocks are a natural formation. Mermaids have also been seen in these waters, and one was said to have cursed the town of Conway after she was washed up on the beach and no one offered to help her back into the sea.

Figure in Cloak

Location: Conwy - Conwy Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Figures unknown, photograph taken in 1908
Further Comments: Walking around the battlements of the castle, this shadowy cloaked figure has been glimpsed by tourists. One story says the castle is haunted by a bridegroom who searches for a lost ring. In 1908, a visitor to the castle took a photograph which showed a ghostly 'young man in picturesque ancient costume', but what happened to this image is not known.

Vanilla

Location: Conwy - Liverpool Arms public house

Further Comments: A ghostly figure is said to appear together with the aroma of vanilla prior to a death related to this building.

Maid

Location: Conwy - Pensychnant
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The first floor of this property was home to a phantom maid, close to the site where she was murdered by the gardener.

Doctor Dick

Location: Conwy - Plas Mawr house, along High Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1500s onwards
Further Comments: Dr Dick was new to the medical trade when called to deal with a sickness which had struck a woman close to giving birth. He could not help her, and both she and her child died while in labour. Dick was so worried about what her war hero husband would do, he tried to exit the houses via the chimney, suffocating in the process. His body remains there, and he is heard still crawling around, trying to escape. The husband died shortly after hearing the news about his wife, and he also haunts the building; his grief stricken sobs are sometimes reported. An unknown young Victorian girl in blue has been seen more recently.

Albert

Location: Conwy - Private resident along Berry Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Complete with woolly beard, the former sailor known as Albert is reluctant to leave the mortal coil.

Fish

Location: Conwy - Quay House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The smell of fish which was detected in this property was said to be related to a former, long deceased, occupant.

Locking

Location: Conwy - Tower Coffee House
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: The entity here is said to have fun locking and unlocking doors. A photograph taken in 2009 may show either the entity or a speck of dust.

Soldier

Location: Conwy - Vardre Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This building is reputedly home to the ghost of a Civil War soldier, though what side he fought on is not known.

Monk

Location: Conwy - Waterfront area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Also seen around the church, a deep hood covers this phantom monk's face.

Fowl Smelling Maid

Location: Conwy Valley - Gwydir Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Sir John Wynn murdered a maid at the castle after she threatened to make public their affair. He bricked her body up in a chimney, but the smell of the rotting corpse hung around the room for months afterwards. Her ghost is said to secrete the same stench. Sir John also continues to linger around the building, as does a large dog and several crying children.

Funeral Procession

Location: Corwen - Exact area not known
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: A man witnessed a phantom funeral procession pass by before vanishing. A couple of weeks later, the man's friend died; in the procession the man recognised people who he had seen in the ghostly vision.

White Stag

Location: Corwen - Llangar Church
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Fifteenth century?
Further Comments: Work on the church was hampered by the Devil stealing the construction materials each night. A wise man told the builders the only way to prevent this from happening was to find a new spot for the church, and that the area would be indicated by a white stag. Sure enough, after searching the local area, a white stag was found; the church was successfully built on the spot of the sighting with no further interruptions.

Upset Lady

Location: Corwen - Owain Glyndwr Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: After a disastrous forbidden relationship with a monk, this woman died of a broken heard and has since been reported within the hotel.

John Henry

Location: Cwm - Blue Lion Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Murdered on the site in 1646, farm labourer Henry can often be heard walking around in the tavern. He has also been spotted on the odd occasion, dressed in working clothes with his trousers tied at the knees with string.

Phantom Army

Location: Deeside - Ewloe Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Weather Dependent: Stormy weather
Further Comments: Aside from the occasional ghostly echo of marching soldiers, a soft singing can be heard as the rain and wind knock against the castle.

Nora

Location: Deeside - Wepre Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2008 (photograph taken)
Further Comments: This area is home to a phantom nun named Nora, who walks the area singing and humming a tune. A photograph of a waterfall in the park taken in 2008 was said to feature Nora, though is actually simulacrum created by a long exposure. Other ghosts said to haunt the area include a pack of hounds and a woman who sings.

Welsh Wolf

Location: Denbigh - Area between Denbigh and Wrexham
Type: Werewolf
Date / Time: Eighteenth century
Further Comments: Reported to be the size of a horse, this huge wolf would create mayhem in the region, feeding on livestock, dogs and the flesh of men.

Black Blob

Location: Denbigh - Denbigh Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000?
Further Comments: The dark shapeless figure seen dashing around the Goblin Tower is said to be the son of the castle's builder. He was falsely accused of having an affair with the landowner's daughter and was thrown to his death from the partly completed tower. A grey (or white) lady has also been observed in the area, while another local legend says that a dragon once resided in the castle. A man with eight fingers on each hand finally killed the creature.

Roman Centurion

Location: Denbigh - Denbigh Moors
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Prior to witness death
Further Comments: To see this ancient phantom is an ill-omen, one which is said to soon lead to the witness's death.

Swift Dancers

Location: Denbigh - Field by Lanelwyd House (likely to be no longer standing)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Summer, 1757
Further Comments: Four witnesses came across a group of fifteen or sixteen strange dancers in this field. Dressed in red, the dancers waved red handkerchiefs.

Skeleton

Location: Denbigh Moors - Plas Pren, ruins opposite the Sportsman's Arms public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Bones glowing brightly in the dark, this bony figure walks around the area of a ruined hunting lodge.

Ring Seeker

Location: Flint - Cornist Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The park is reportedly haunted by the tragic wraith of a woman searching for her lost engagement ring. Her father disapproved of her suitor and threw the ring into the park. The lady died before it was found and continues the search to this day.
