Emma's ghost.

Emma

Further Comments: Bathing naked at the pool, Emma swam further out when she saw that Prince (or King) John was approaching. Alas, she could not tread water and drowned. She sometimes returns to the area.

Jack?

Location: Stoneleigh - Road by Nescot College on the Ewell bypass
Type: Other
Date / Time: 14 February 2012
Further Comments: A taxi driver and his three passengers watched a dark figure with no features dart across the road in front of them before leaping four and a half metres into the air to clear an embankment. The passengers compared the entity to Spring Healed Jack.

White Figure

Location: Sunbury on Thames - Castle Restaurant
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A small figure in white has been witnessed moving between the kitchen and living room of this building.

Figure in the Chair

Location: Sunbury on Thames - Rossall House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: Home to Sherard Osborn Cowper-Coles, electrometallurgist and inventor, Rossall House was said to be haunted by a ghost that was seen by Sherard's wife. The scientist once took a photograph of a chair that revealed a ghostly looking man sitting upon it, covered in a blanket and wearing a wig.

Child in the Cellar

Location: Sutton - Angel Public House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2001
Further Comments: A former manager of the pub reported hearing a child's voice in the cellar, where doors would shut and barrels shift with no human intervention. A strange man would also be seen walking up and down the side of the pub in the mornings.

The Taxman

Location: Sutton - Carshalton House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Both a taxman and royal messenger have been killed on the staircase during the building's history. Both figures are now reported to haunt the stairs.

Man in Grey

Location: Sutton - Former cinema at Rosehill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1972
Further Comments: This figure appeared several times to members of staff, slowly disappearing if approached or spoken to. During the 1950s, residents complained of loud organ music coming from the building in the early hours of the morning, even though the organ had been removed several years previously.

Elderly Gentleman

Location: Sutton - Sutton Arms
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twenty-first century
Further Comments: A customer reported seeing the reflection of an older man in the mirror of the toilet, although no one matching the description was even in the building at the time. The pub has also experienced glass bottles exploding without reason, locked doors which swing open and footprints left on freshly mopped floors which do not match anyone on site. CCTV has picked up lights and the figure of a man in a locked room.

Studio Spooks

Location: Teddington - Teddington Studios
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early 2000s
Further Comments: Auction World TV reported that many strange things were happening soon after they moved in, including lighting rigs that fell from the sky without warning and doors that locked themselves. A former worker also heard voices that past his door - on investigation he could find no one around.

Lady in White

Location: Thames Ditton - Home of Compassion church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Appearing quite real and substantial, the room that this sad shade haunts remained locked up for many years. She could be one of the nuns who once worked in the building.

Toast Smell

Location: Thornton Heath - Lion Inn, Pawsons Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Twenty-first century, during winter months
Further Comments: Said to work in the older part of the pub, this poltergeist is blamed for a toast-like smell, as well as creating voices and other noises. The winter-born polt is just one of the ghosts at home here, with a phantom child, a former serving girl and an old pub regular cited as the others.

Mirror Cleaner

Location: Thornton Heath - Private house along Bensham Manor Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: Alma Fielding claimed the house that she lived in as a child had a poltergeist which cleaned the windows and mirrors every night, even when smeared with ash.


The tiger that came for a bite.

Vampire

Location: Thornton Heath - Private house, Beverstone Road
Type: Vampire
Date / Time: 1938, 1970s
Further Comments: One piece of source material states that at three separate times over three months in 1938, a woman reported being attacked by a winged creature which bit her neck and drew blood. However, it is likely that the 'vampire' attacks occurred during the 1970s, and the 1938 incidents were more poltergeist is nature (contemporary newspaper reports support this). Even so, the 1970s incidents also involved poltergeist activity, and the woman at the centre of the claims alleged she endured a tiger attack.

Beaten Donkey

Location: Tilford - Donkey Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The area around the inn is haunted by a donkey that was beaten to death by its owner.


A ghostly motorcyclist, and another entity on the horizon.

Faceless Motorcyclist

Location: Waddon - Roundshaw Housing Estate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1971
Further Comments: The motorcyclist was seen early in the morning, dressed in old clothing. It is thought he was stationed on this site during the Second World War, which was a RAF base. Other airfield ghosts reported around the area include a Dutch pilot killed when his airplane crashed in fog in the 1930s and three nuns who died when their plane crashed in 1947. Phantom singing has also been reported on the estate.

Scratching Post

Location: Wallis Wood - Footpath at edge of wood near Oakfields estate
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Late 1980s or early 1990s
Further Comments: A mother and her two children returning from a visit to the mobile library spotted a 1.5 metre long black cat sitting on the path ahead of them. After watching the creature for a minute or two and realising that the cat was not going to move, the family went back the way they came. A year later when in the area, the family found the base of a tree was covered in scratches, as if the large cat had used it as a scratching post.

John Bradshaw

Location: Walton on Thames - Manor House

Further Comments: This shade of the man who signed Charles I death warrant sometimes appears in this old house.

Whispering

Location: Walton on Thames - The Clock Tower, Bridge Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: Whispering, strange footsteps and stationery cupboard doors which rattle unaided by human hand are just a few incidents reported on Jenrick's company blog.

Cheetah

Location: Walton-on-the-Hill - Road running by Walton Heath
Type: ABC
Date / Time: May 1983
Further Comments: A motorist watched a cheetah run in front of his car as he drove through the area.

Tall Man

Location: Warlingham - Farleigh Road, close to the common
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: September 2009
Further Comments: The figure of a tall man was observed crossing the road. The man did not look solid, and vanished walking into a thick hedge.

Warning of Great Events

Location: Warlingham - Spring (exact location not known)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Seventeenth century?
Further Comments: The spring is said to rise before any events which occur which result in great change, although the last rise may have occurred during the Revolution of 1688.


A ghostly Cardinal protects hidden treasure.

Cardinal

Location: Waverley - Waverley Abbey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Ghost unknown, cat sighting 27 October 1825
Further Comments: Appearing in the dining hall, this former Cardinal was reportedly seen many times drifting around. It is believed that he could stand guard over a hoard of hidden treasure. The writer William Cobbett reported seeing a large grey cat while visiting the abbey, possibly an early Alien Big Cat encounter.

Woman Dressed in Satin

Location: West Clandon - Clandon House, Clandon Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Last seen 1896?
Further Comments: This ghostly lady, named by one source as Elizabeth Knight, wearing a cream coloured satin dress and walks the land surrounding the house carrying a large hunting knife. She is said to have once walked through the front wall of the house, appearing in every room before materialising through the back wall. A male ghost also haunts the area, recognised by his overgrown facial hair, and another female spirit, this time dressed in black.

Dragon Slayer

Location: West Clandon - Exact location unknown, but woodcarving in local church
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A dragon which was given the locals a hard time was killed by an ex-soldier and his dog - the dog leapt onto the creature's face, while the man decapitated the wyrm.

Headless Horseman

Location: Westcott - Road between Westcott and Dorking
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2007, approximately 02:30h
Further Comments: A headless horseman is reported to haunt Westcott. In 2007, one man walking between Westcott and Dorking was followed by something unseen which pushed its way through thick bushes and made a trotting sound.
