Monk
Location: Abbeyshrule - Old burial ground
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1875, winter
Further Comments: As AH Millar rode past the old burial ground he spotted what he thought was a policeman in a long coat walking towards him. The figure vanished without warning. Millar later discovered that the site was haunted by a monk, the apparition said to be so common that no one would pass the area after sundown.

Captain Blundell
Location: Granard - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Eighteenth century onwards
Further Comments: Blundell, a British officer, rides decapitated upon horseback in this area. His headless body was found in a nearby barracks, and an investigation ruled that the man had killed himself. Some people thought this to be unlikely, and believed his ghost had returned to prove that a murder had really occurred.

Snorting
Location: Killashee - Middleton House
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Circa 1914
Further Comments: A man renting this property was woken during the night by a loud snorting sound close by. Investigating, the man fainted after the sound occurred again right on top of him. He moved out, although the man said that during his first night in the new house, he was pushed out of bed by an unseen source. A similar event was reported by a previous lodger at Middleton House.

Wailing
Location: Longford - Barracks along Battery Road

Further Comments: The site of a former hospital, this barracks was claimed to be haunted by a wailing noise.

Dr Dubedat
Location: Longford - County Longford Infirmary
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: Dubedat was the first doctor to be based at the old infirmary, and his skill much admired. After his death, his phantom periodically returned, and it was said his appearance heralded the death of a patient.
