Screams of the Drowning

Further Comments: A passenger boat sunk here in the eighteenth century; many of the occupants drowned, and their psychic screams continue to this day.

Further Comments: A man awoke in a cold sweat at 03:30h, to an extremely loud high pitched wail which seemed to shift around his home. He rang his girlfriend, and she was able to clearly hear the sound. Two weeks later, they heard of a death in the family.

Lady Reid

Further Comments: This phantom woman has terrorised many visitors to the house who have tried to spend the night in the guest bedroom.


Location: Dublin - St Michan's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The vault under this church contains thirty mummified bodies - people who have listened carefully in the room claim to have heard loud whispering.

Lilac Balls of Light

Location: Dublin - Glenasmole, Bohernabreena
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: Some locals say that these balls of light, lilac in colour, are fairies; others say they are the manifestation of a lady who lost her way in a bad snowstorm in the middle ages and consequently died - she now tries to prevent her fate from happening to others.

Woman with Stick

Location: Dublin - Residence in Walkinstown Avenue

Further Comments: The Irish Examiner reported that the Quinn's family house was haunted by an elderly woman. The phantom, moving around with the aid of a stick, was said to have been photographed.

Shuffling Feet

Location: Dublin - Clontarf Castle Hotel

Further Comments: One guest at the hotel claimed to hear footsteps in his room at night. The man also said that his shower had turned itself on and his TV flicked channels over at will...

Further Comments: It has been claimed that the ghost of Jonathan Swift haunts the park.

Smell and Smoke

Location: Dublin - Private flat, Camden Row

Date / Time: Late twentieth or early twenty-first century
Further Comments: A former occupier reported that a horrible smell would periodically come from a wall and a door would be heard slamming, although they could never figure out which door it was. The occupier's partner also encountered black smoke which took human form and started to insult her.

Further Comments: The area where an old woman was murdered by a tramp was haunted by a strange jangling sound. Two sisters who heard the sound were hit by a blast of air as it passed them.


Location: Dublin - St Audoen's Church

Further Comments: The church is said to be the haunt of lepers. The area outside the church is home to a green lady, reputed to be Darky Kelly, executed for killing her unborn child (or five men).

Robert Emmet

Location: Dublin - Brazen Head public house

Further Comments: Rebel leader Robert Emmet is said to have used the Brazen Head for meetings until executed in 1803. His ghost is said to remain, still on the look out for enemies.


Location: Dublin - Kilmainham Gaol (former prison, now a museum)

Further Comments: While being renovated, workers in this old gaol reported hearing strange footsteps. Other visitors have reported the feeling of being watched.

James Clarence Mangan

Location: Dublin - Castle Inn, Lord Edward Street

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Mangan was born in this building and is said to periodically return, his presence bringing an overwhelming depression to the site.

Man in Tweeds

Location: Dublin - Sean Kavanaghs public house, aka The Gravediggers, Glasnevin
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: An elderly man dressed in an old fashioned set of tweeds is said to occasionally sit near the bar.


Location: Dublin - Widow Gammons Hill, Monkstown

Further Comments: The widow Gammon is said to have informed Cromwell's men that monks were hiding in this area. After her death, the widow's ghost returned to the area, one witness claiming that the phantom had touched his neck, leaving a burn.

Further Comments: Phantom singing, combined with the occasional whimper for help, could be heard for a few months during 1977.

Rolling Apple

Location: Dublin - Jervis shopping centre

Date / Time: Circa November 2011
Further Comments: CCTV footage released on YouTube appears to show an apple falling from a fruit stall and rolling backwards and forwards on the floor, as if being pushed between two unseen figures.

On the Telephone

Location: Dublin - Murrays Car Rental (no longer operating), Lower Baggot Street
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2006 - 2011
Further Comments: Staff here experienced pens being thrown around the office, fire extinguishers falling from their mountings, and strange voices interrupting telephone calls.

Old Lady

Location: Dublin - Canal through Drimnagh
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1992, 02:00h
Further Comments: A cyclist riding along the canal witnessed a glowing elderly woman in white with long hair dancing with a young man. The man wore a seventeenth or eighteenth century military uniform and looked 'normal', unlike the woman who also hummed a tune. The cyclist did not stop.

Further Comments: A former occupant who grew up in the house said that one family member had seen a monk while the witness herself had seen her own doppelganger. Other strange activities included banging, voices, footsteps cold spots and the smell of tobacco.

Matching Band

Location: Dublin - Corkagh Estate (now Corkagh Park)
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Easter Monday, 1916
Further Comments: During the Easter Rising of 1916, the family and staff at Corkagh House heard a band playing and the sound of marching feet heading towards the house. Those present thought they would be attacked, but the sounds suddenly stopped and nothing could be seen.

Archdeacon Bulkeley?

Location: Dublin - Area around Old Bawn Road and the Dodder
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 08 September (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Said to either be driven by or containing Archdeacon Bulkeley, a coach drawn by six headless horses containing two passengers together with two footmen, drives through this area of Dublin. Anyone who spots the coach is said to die within 366 days.

Nineteenth Century Soldier

Location: Dublin - National Museum of Ireland (was Collins Barracks)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: Several entities are said to exist at this former barracks, including a black shadowy figure and a soldier in nineteenth century uniform. Truck drivers have reported seeing figures in Napoleonic era uniforms burying the dead in Croppy Park, while visiting tourists said that they had watched soldiers in First World War uniforms, believing them to be a reenactment group. Screams, panicked horses and gunfire have also been heard coming from the area.

Girl with Curly Hair

Location: Dublin - Mansion House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: May 2013
Further Comments: After Lord Mayor Naoise O Muiri's four year old daughter reported seeing a girl with dark curly hair watching television, he told the local press that the building was haunted.
